Are my branches too weak ?

Please can I get some advice because all my plants branches have a bulb like shape where they meet the main stem and when I am lst' ing them a couple have broke off . They seem weak I apply little pressure. Could this be a nute deficiency or temperature?

Probably strain. I had one like that and it didnt like to be bent. So i left it alone.

I have the same thing going on.. all fat and bulbous wherever the plant branches... I haven't had any breaks, but she is really hard to train. I was actually wondering myself what is causing it...

Some strains dont like being trained. Some love it and will bend easily. While others seem to not like it so much and can do more harm if bent to far. Some bitches just cant be trained :lol:

I agree with the others. Some strains just grow like that and will snap if you LST. For these I typically supercrop. Just pinch the part of the branch you wish to bend (it will feel bad crushing it but this is what you're going for) and then bend down. It will appear brutal and broken but check again in 2 days (many times just 1) and it bounces back. You will have a more even canopy with additional tops. You'll see a knuckle form where you did the pinching and bending.

So there is no plant pathology involved in creating the big exaggerated joints that any of you know of?

no, people sometimes call it "yolking" i guess because it looks like a harness, but it seems to be a totally genetic thing, not caused by environmental factors. i find that if i feed 1 ml of silica per gallon for the first few waterings it makes the young stems pliable, and they stiffen up when they get older, so i can train them young and they'll "set" themselves

I feed silica
for me it makes my stems turgid... stiff like an erect penis
it makes the cell walls firmer to protect against pests
its good to make your branches stronger to hold weight but not so good for bending
I was reading the thread and was thinking
(don't use silica if you want to bend and sure enough I get to the bottom and its says, use silica. lol)

some strains grow thick strong stout branches
these strains are desirable if you want a plant that can hold up its own weight without the need for tying or trellis
theyre good for SOG grows, not so much for scrog

in some cases high nitrogen (or excessive nitrogen) fertilizers can soften the branches and make them bend easier but your better of working with the genetics you have and not trying to force something that's not there

I'm pretty sure between the genetics I'm working with and the fact that I've been giving her silica since she was young has resulted in some seriously thick and seriously strong stems. Like damn near unbendable once they get to a certain point. Hopefully she produces some serious donkey dick colas because she certainly has the structure to support them.

I use silica , and I have those bulby stems as well, but I found that they respond well to supercropping then LST as long as your gentle

thats odd, i find that silica makes my plants very flexible while they're young, but they harden up as they age, usually by about week 5 or so

everyone is different maybe your deal is different

I could be wrong who knows

but I would guess if your stems are flexible in early stages of veg and your feeding silica

your plants are maybe getting a good bit of N keeping them supple

Thanks for the help with the nutes before though, it seems to have helped.
