Cut the Corn dude some slack. Dark with 2 kids. People have died in the desert 1 mile from rescue. It doesn't mean they are retarded.

i was at a friends house in central Washington state one time. my buddies house was somewhat "in the woods". a cute little A-frame tucked under the trees. one day we decided to go check out the creek. we follow the narrow path down to the water and started smoking pot. then we started hiking. we went north for awhile, then ended up following this little deer trail off top the left. i was leading. it was gorgeous out, overcast and drizzly, but warm and comfortable. we were just hiking, not even thinking. suddenly i noticed the trail getting tighter and tighter. i ducked under a few branches and the next thing i knew we were under thick overgrowth with not trail in site. where the fuck are we!?!

panic set in for a few minutes. we stopped and tried to focus. the sun was behind the clouds so we had no reference point.

you know when you're in a situation and suddenly the mood changes? reality hits and your mind spins. yeah, that happened. it was fight or flight at that point. luckily we used common sense and slowly backtracked our way out of there. we made it home just as it was getting dark. we realized then just how easy it is to die in the woods. lesson learned.

always carry a compass.

It takes skill NOT to get lost. Like FDD said, if there is overcast and no reference, you can hike in circles. Survival tactics call for you to select micro waypoints as you walk to maintain a generally straight path. A corn maze would be hopeless, especially with 2 screaming hungry kids.

i can get anywhere, as long as the sun's out. i have a natural compass built within me that works off of the suns rays.

first of all, anyone who has ever been to a corn maze knows that the fines for dystroying the maze are steep. they can and will get the police involved, so whatever genius decides to machete his way out is not going to be pleased with the outcome. in the past 10 years i can recall at least 2 news stories about idiots who made their own way out and got owned by management.
second, there is more than one maze there, and you're talking about literally miles of pathways. you're lucky to find a port-o-toilet or a water station. they make a new maze every year. i got lost in one for a couple hours a few years ago, and this year's maze was about 5 times more complex than the one i got stuck in.

i'm not going to argue about whether people from mass are stupid. we have more colleges than states 5 times our size and are in the top 5 for public education, by most criteria we are actually number one.

if you want to shit on massachusetts make fun of our awful drivers, our cunty attitudes, and that god-awful health care shit they passed here. and the fact that we willingly pay 9 bucks for a pack of smokes and triple tax everything.
