Are Ferts & Nutes Necessary?

Like, can I plant my germinated seed in soil with a NPK ratio of 59-45-46 and not add any external nutes or ferts after that? Will it survive on whats in the soil or do I NEED to buy fertilizers?

I'm pretty sure that it's a bad idea to use any nutes that early in the process. Definitely not that high of a concentration, at least.

Wow that was fast, I mean, like after about 2-3 weeks when its time to start adding nutrients, can I not not add any at all and expect the plant to continue growing? Well, my main question was DOES the plant NEED EXTERNAL nutrients besides whats in the SOIL.

I'm not exactly a pro grower or anything, but I think the plant needs more of certain nutes at different points in the growing process. You know, for root growth, stem strength, flowering, etc.

What kind of soil are you using? If it has time released nutrients in it I think that's bad. At least I've read on here that it's not good. And is the soil really 59-45-46? I think that would nute burn a sprout real fast.

Yeah, doesn't say whether it's slow release or not. But, in reality, it actually says 59-4546-0 as the NPK's ratio on the bag, but people on here and another grow forum I go to tell me to disregard it as a misprint, and its really 59-45-46. So I don't know, confuses me heavily. But so far Seedling A is going good, no nute burns or anything. But, on on my Seedling A, there is a slight purpleness on the 2nd set of true leaves after the cotyldons. Now I don't know whether this is due to the 0 ratio for the Potassium causing the purple or an environmental factor, but like I said the whole 59-4546-0/59-45-46 ration thing has got me confused.

I think purpling of young plants leaves is normal. If it stays purple after a few weeks then you might have a problem.

I've never grown without ferts so I wouldn't know. But I'd say you would get very poor results and yield because after a month or two, the plant will have leeched all the goodness from the soil. You CAN get cheap ass $1.89 miracle grow fertilizers for veg and bloom that will last you a lifetime. Miracle grow will work but it's definately not the best, hence the price.

you know if you took a second a read you would realized all these questions have been answered a billion times...dont use the soil you are using...you want soil without time release nutes...and wtf are you talking about external nutes...sounds like you got some more reading to do...

I have soil that has time release nutes, and they only release when the soil reaches a certain temperature

ok like i said that is completly the wrong soil to be using...and yeah you need nutes

Haha, I was putting it in easier terms, but I meant like can it grow off the nutes in the soil the whole plant life, without adding any supplemental nutes. But yeah my question was already answered.

yeah i would scrap the time released soil....fox farm makes some good products....goodluck

Hmmm, I used Sta-Green Potting soil, it seems to working just fine, in fact its working excellent. I wiill pick up some nutes in a few days. My babies are as green as can be, meaning they are very rich in nitrogen.
