Are blacks lights okay?

I just bought 3 100w black light bulbs, and I was just wondering if the plants would still grow even if it looks like there's barely any light hitting them. I need some opinions on this asap.

they might grow, but they're far from ideal for growing mj with..

try buying a few of those spiral, cfl bulbs in the largest wattage you can find / afford and you'll get much better results.. :D

Can't be providing enough light with solely bl's alone; you're going to want traditional cfl's or HID's for real growth on plants. Although now that you have them they can be put to use for UVB output to increase that potency! Just would recommend getting them reeeal close to the sides of the plants whilst the daylight spectrums are on - if you think they look dim now, wait till there's some real light around. lol.

Eat some shrooms n look at ur plants under the light...prolly look cool...that's abt the only reason I'd put blk lights in my set up

Don't just get any spiral, cfl bulb. Make sure it's the right spectrum. 2700k or 6500k is good light for growing plants. Walmart has a 12 pack of 23 watt, 2700k CFL bulbs for $24.00 right now. That would be enough light to get some pretty good results.

Good luck!

Black Lights deliver mostly UV and IR spectrum radiation (it's not really "light" since light refers to the visible spectrum...)

Black Lights can help your plants in many ways, but it's not a photosynthesis spectrum. if all you got is black lights you'll have dead plants in short order.

UV is awesome for killing mildew, bacterium and soft skinned critters like aphids and mites but it really doesnt do shit if it isnt hitting the target critters directly in sufficient power to give them terminal sunburn.

thats why squishy bugs hide under leaves, they die in direct sunlight, but youll not be getting real Sunlight UV levels without creating dangerous levels for your plants, and the critters will just move to the shadows to escape your radiation bath.

installing a UV light before you get a powdery mildew, bud rot or spider mite problem can help prevent these pesky issues but they wont really help your plants grow.

too much UV can torch new growth on your plants and degrades your trichomes.

300 watts is way too much UV unless your covering a whole room. if youre growing 1-2 plants in a closet, one of those lights will be helpful, but they need to be on the same schedule as your other lights.

all in all, most growers dont use Black Lights, but a little can help prevent issues.
