Are Birthers racist or just plain stupid?

You have to ask yourself whether the birthers - those who doubt the validity of President Barack Obama’s birth certificate - are racist or just plain stupid. There don’t seem to be any other options. Last night, on NBC’s Nightly News with Brian Williams, former President Jimmy Carter said it all: “I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he is African-American." “Racism ... still exists and I think it has bubbled up to the surface because of a belief among many white people, not just in the south but around the country, that African-Americans are not qualified to lead this great country.” No matter what you think of Jimmy Carter, it’s hard to disagree with him on this one. The validity of President Obama’s birth certificate has been confirmed for more than a year, but birthers continue to question Obama's citizenship. On August 21, 2008 factcheck.org published the birth certificate and also the certificate number, so anyone can check it for themselves. On October 29, 2008, Dr. Chiyome Fukino, the Director of Hawaii’s Department of Health, said that she and Alvin Onaka, the State Registrar of Vital Statistics and Chief of the Office of Health Status Monitoring, have both personally verified that the Hawaii Department of Health holds President Obama's original birth certificate. But don’t confuse the birthers with facts. As recently as yesterday (9/16/09), birthers ignored important issues, such as the federal deficit and the War on Terror, and choose to comment instead on Obama’s eligibility to be President of the United States. i began a lengthy and detailed reply to your foolish accusation, but then thought better of it. the fools of this world will always believe what they wish to believe, no matter what reality tells them. that you would quote one of america's most miserable excuses for a president is enough to show you for what you are. that you would add to that the wisdom of a comedian to drive home your point only emphasizes that ignorance. it seems that maher and stewart are the guiding lights and major sources of information for today's liberal sheep and that is the most telling point.

It can all be cleared up with one sentence from Obama's lips. The real question is why he refuses to show it? It's such a SIMPLE thing to clear up... and yet. Nothing fishy there.... right?

agreed but he will never do that. he wants us to keep arguing over this among other things. so they can move on with their agendas.

I haven't met anyone who can say for sure Obama was born in the USA. It's easy to clear up... why doesn't he? Why does he spend millions to keep it out of court? Why did he let an officer be relieved of duty rather than produce it? (because in military court he'd have no wiggle room, he'd have to produce it).

he has... plenty many of times... but that's just not enough for you... isn't it curious that no high-level politician has continued to pursue the "birther" movement, news organizations have given up, and generally no one gives a flying fuck about birthers...why?? because it's bullshit, and they know it............... take a hint from people who actually have something to loose by tarnishing their reputation by supporting this fantasy. let it go....

Has any white president had to go through this (I mean the on going accusations even after he has shown the certificate)? Everybody just assumes that white presidents are legit. But, a black man oh no! we better double, no triple check this one. And when he does show us the proof we better question it to the Nth degree just to be sure. A black men american...impossible! A black man president...inconceivable!

We have a long way to go with the racism problem in the US. the good news it that we are making progress, slowly.

BTW the "millions" spent on court fees were where multiple government agencies were being sued and Obama wasn't the defendant. So you think they question his birth certificate because he is black and not because his father was a foreign citizen? OK.

If Jimmy Carter blames the hatred for Obama on racism, how does explain the hatred all of America felt for him? They both have the same failed policies but lets not bring logic into the argument when we can pull out the race card.

none of obama's policies have "failed"... they have yet to be implemented.

the policies that failed were Bush's policies, and we are still feeling the stranglehold his ignorance placed on the country... the leader's policy iniciatives usually start to take effect nearing the end of the first term... and the policies continue unless the next president steps in.....

obama is trying to fix the mess, it's just a little hard when you have the conservatives spreading lies like:

obama was born in kenya
obama = hitler, naziism, facism, comunism, totalitarianim, and every other ism...
obama will have death panels deciding who will live and who will die
the original health plan will cost you more than what health care costs you now

if you log on to a website you're computer becomes property of obama
there were 4 million people in washington DC in the original tea party
obama is indoctrinating your children
obama-care will cover ALL illegal aliens
