Are autos worth it?

From a minimalist stand point absolutely. Doesn't get much easier. If your trying to turn a buck, NO!!

Why run autos when 12/12 from seed lets you run many strains with better potency? Reserva Privada Kandy Kush and G13 Labs OG13 rocked it on 12/12 FS

As someones whos not been growing as long as many expert growers, but i think for newbies autos are a good way to break into growing as alot of strains like Northern Lights are pretty straight forward as ive learn since ive 3 sucessful auto grows behind me. and NLs seem to be a pretty popular strain in the autos world your find theres always a few good diarys you can sub to to use for comparision guides.

12/12 from seed on a regular strain is easy as fuck, plus less money on electric. You get to keep all the original potency and flavour of photoperiod strains.

BUT autos are good for: GUERILLA GROWS/OUTDOOR MULTIPLE HARVEST/FLOWERING IN A VEG TENT FOR EARLY BIT OF SMOKE

best thing to do with autos (as they are not cheap!!) is what i've decided to do in the footsteps of clever lil people before me, is get some Tiresias mist, or make you own colloidal silver, and buy some auto seeds from a 9breeder, then use the CS spray to make femenised seeds. That way you can turn £30 into about 400 + femenized seeds. Then you will have low yeild but with 400 plants making 10g thats 4000g (potentially lol i dont expect all of them to make it to the end, its just hypothetical - safety in numbers hehe)

strains i got already for my fem seed grow: la bella afrodita (delicious seeds), pakistan ryder (W.O.S.), white widow auto (lowlife) and supersonic cristal storm (samsara)

ive seen people harvest like 7" high plants, but its just pot luck with autos, some could be 7", some could be more like 30", even on the same strain.

if i had more money i would also have got the northern lights x Big bud auto by world of seeds, also (description sounds sick). Heard good things about Onyx, russian rocket fuel and snowstorm (short stuff), and iranian (dr. greenthumb). There are simply loads of good ones, check em out on google pics for an idea of height etc. but dont take it as 100% reliable coz those people could have fucked up their grows. Just use it as a general guide. For example, la bella afrodita looks like alot of people get 7" plants, but i also seen some pics of some that were more like a foot and a half. Delicious seeds also say that the plant can reach 70-120cm or something. So My strategie is to make my own fem crosses of my 4 strains (think im gonna turn the auto white widow lower branches into male flowers and pollinate all the others with her/him lol the pics i saw on google were insanely covered in THC and a pretty good size between yeild and stealth)

I like the autos that I've grown. Here's the thread showing them in my mini fridge: https://www.rollitup.org/led-other-lighting/610264-la-diva-day-64-harvesting.html

The first was La Diva auto, and I got about an ounce from it. I grew it entirely with a blackstar 100W flowering LED light, which I replaced with a more powerful light thereafter. The second plant later in the thread is a Critical Jack Herer auto that will be finishing in a couple weeks. It is much bigger, and looks a lot frostier! I'm really looking forward to her finishing up. The La Diva smoke was pretty good, the buds were a little fluffy from the light, but other than that it tasted and smoked nicely.

I'm going to be growing autos every winter- when it's cooler and I can go 24/0 lighting with no heat issues. In the summer I will switch to photoperiod and have the plants on their dark cycle during the daytime, when I'm not home and the AC is off.

In my opinion, autos are a great addition to the gardener's set of options and shouldn't be counted out!

there are some autos that out produce some big photoperiod strains. Dutch passion has 3-5 dif strains that will yield over 100g in less than 11 weeks from seed in good conditions. the have really improved over the years. Im currently growing a secret cross from stitch he produces seeds for flash seeds and short stuff seeds. some of his super autos yeild as much as 5-6oz outdoor in 140 days. def dont count them out there are some very very strong crosses just have to do some research to find the biggest and best. just my 2 cents

had a dinafem auto critical jack put out damn near 2 zips in 65 days, other than that I haven't seen much to keep me trying autos. This run I've got 2 w.o.s nlxbb and one pak ryder going while I vegged some other plants and I'm not too impressed with them so far, it looks like less than one oz per plant this run... but I'll get some smoke while my photos finish. Last summer I borrowed my 600w hps to a friend who ran several different autos with poor results too...at least yield wise, most of the autos I've smoked are a heavy stone buzz. I should mention that all of the autos I've run were also freebies... genetics makes all the difference auto or photo.

Sorry no journal or pics, got about 2 weeks left til harvest. Smell is half sweet half musty, they are starting to plump up a little bit now. Oddly enough they started flowering a week apart, one around the 17 day mark and the other a week later. As for smoke I would imagine it to be a heavy stone like most autos and smell usually translates to taste, but it will be at least a month until harvest/cure is done. They seem to not care too much for nutes, but this last heavy watering has got them plumping up, so I'm just gonna keep flooding them til they get chopped.

DAY 84. Harvest.

She is down and drying after a 4 hour trimming session and what an awkward Annie she was with all those foxtails. Using my preferred paper bag method of drying which takes between 5 and 7 days and my dry yield hopes are high after seeing the wet weight.......

Here is dutch passion auto extreme in 15l airpots with 540w of grownorthern led. Saw this one start to finish. yield dry was 303g...with the right genetics anything is possible..

If you haven't harvested yet, how do you know how much bud weight you're telling us is on there? I mean sure it's possible to guesstimate, but it's pretty hard with it being wet weight and not knowing what's going to dry out to what.

Just sayin' :dunce:

You kinda answered my Auto Norther Lights question I posted in another thread. I got one of the short plants. My Northern Light was only about 12" tall. I mean it looks like the bud is going to be awesome quality, but not worth all the soil, light, effort, etc. to yield a 1/2 oz. (at least to me) Ive got about 7 more auto seeds im going to finish up this summer and then that may be it for autos and I unless one of those plants really changes my mind.

The problem I'm finding with the automatics, is they are very inconsistant. Meaning you can have some that are more automatic then others in the batch.

The unstability makes them unpalitable for most I would wager.

As for growing other strains from seed, that doesn't seem to work to well either. Just for the fact that some plants like to freak out if you don't give them some veg time.

That is why I am working with my Wonderjacks cutting. It's not an auto, but it's as quick as one. Does the best of anything I've seen outdoors, and is excellent as well indoors under my fluro lighting.

Looks more around 150-220 grams. I could be wrong.

I've harvested a few autos now, so consider it an educated guesstimate. this one doesn't even compare to the auto critical jack that put out 2 zips. these are similar to drew425 description, about a foot tall, with minimal output on the side branching. I'm not sure if you misinterpreted what I said about the weight, I figure it will be around a half to 3/4 oz per plant, not less than an oz between the three. They can be finicky too, I think these would have been fine with just water all the way through. Where as the acj took nutes pretty well. Yield could probably be increased by growing the same strain the same way multiple times to learn its preferences... but variety is the spice of life.
Truth be told I don't even use a scale anymore...I measure by by quarts now. I think the three autos will almost fill one qt jar once dried and cured.
Here's a shot of the acj just before she got the chop. I was actually going back and forth with a guy who was growing the same strain at about the same time and I think his put out about half as much as mine.
