are aquarium testers good for growing purpose for ph?

Dude, pH is crucial. Why would you scrimp on something that critical? Call some of your local nurseries, or pool & patio shops. Most offer free (or cheap) pH testing for either the soil, or run-off water.
I'd buy cheap assed buckets, but thats about it. But don't get cheap on the things that will directly affect your yield.

Okay! I'll play the devil's Advocate. PH is pH, it's just a scale of 1 - 14. As long as the test yields reasonably accurate results, who cares if it was designed for plants or fish? It is just as critical for both of them - thier lives depend on it. I bet people who raise exotic tropical fish would say "Don't trust your fish's life to some shitty plant pH tester - go to Petco and get a real pH tester!"
The only real disadvantage I know of is that aquarium pH testers are usually only accurate when testing clear water, because they rely on the final color of the "test water".

The tests that use litmus would be just fine. I love that analogy BTW!!! Thats EXACTLY what an aquarist would say!! (I know I would!!)
