Honestly, neither's a good choice for deer hunting. You'd serve yourself much better with a bolt gun in a medium chambering like .250 Savage or .260 Remington.
If you're worried about fast backup shots, maybe a levergun in 30-30 (or 7-30 Waters) or a heavy pistol cartridge ... but those are better for brush hunting, where a twelve-gauge with sabot or buckshot would do well also. All jmo. But the AK is marginal for deer, even with premium ammo, and the AR is just criminal. Not enough momentum behind that tiny pill. Yes, the .223 has brought down a lot of deer, but it's also served up more than its share of cripples and slow deaths. Hunting ethics demand a more positive weapon. Jmo. cn
The Remington R-15 450 Bushmaster should pack enough of a wallop to satisfy even the most hardened home invader. Drop a deer in one shot with a factory 4 round clip; with a rapid fire rate... this thing can't be beat.
