Apathy.

Im not signing any petitions, I'm not going to reefer rallies, I'm not willing to let the feds tell me it's ok and that I have to buy an overpriced marijuana stamp and submit to any inspections. I'm willing to keep my secret and when anyone asks I always "know a guy." Fuck skittles they're too much work.

edit. I've never been homeless but I donate time for that cause, I've never had cancer but I'm raising money and donating my hair next year.

I get involved in complicated and controversial political causes frequently. I'm apathetic toward everything, but I get bored and support causes. You can be apathetic toward the world, lack all empathy for your fellow man, the beasts and plants of the planet, and mother earth herself, and still get behind causes.

I won't get behind either side of the gun debate. Both sides already lost any "rational debate" by denying guns to felons. The constitution makes no provision for the exclusion of felons.
I support gay marriage. I think everyone should have the opportunity to strive for misery.
Rhinos are bad-ass, and there's a large native African population around here, so I'll thow a rhino sticker on my car if I find one.
Free Tibet? I'll get behind that, but, that's just cuz I got spam from a chinese server a couple years ago.
Privatizing education. I'm all for it. Hours of debate on that one.
Business reform? Hell yeah! Because it's easier to start a new business and get funding, after a wave of federal changes.
Weed? That one's obvious, by my presence on this site, and my offering advice to n00bs.
Israel/Palestine? I have a solution. It's called "war." Partially disarm Israel, partially arm Palestine, let EVERYONE know it's between THEM ONLY. Extra penalties for civilian casualties. (Trivia: Civilian casualties are prohibited under both Old Testament and Quranic law. Penalty varies from fine to death, based on intention.)

Like someone already said, more people don't get behind legalization because of the stigma attached to it. If my mom posted a pro-pot anything on her Facebook, or pinned it on her pinterest her company would immediately terminate her employment. If my boss came out pro-marijuana, DOT and OSHA would ass rape our company, if my friend that's a daily toker and in politics brought it up, his homosexuality and marijuana use would become a firebrand in political funding circles, that are populated by 55+ "conservative" liberals. He'd have no chance of being mayor (right now, he's about 2 elections away.)

I don't know if the OP is old enough to remember when Florida Orange Juice became a hot-button topic in the gay community. That was back when people said "just come out, people will accept you, if more homosexuals come out, it'll get easier for everyone." Instead, the establishment lashed out, passed laws to ban homosexuals from certain professions, and allow general discrimination based on sexuality. Older people have seen Civil Rights, Gay Rights, Anti-War rights. We remember how ugly the fight gets. Outing ourselves as pot users or supporters is necessary, but, will have the same initial backlash as equality fights always do.
