Anyone Wished They Got a 600w instead of a 400w?

Hey y'all, I'm going to buy an HID 400w HPS/MH combo set up to grow ~3-4 Short Ryders in a 3x3 space.

I'm wondering if bumping up to the 600w will be worth a little more money. I was curious if any of you used a 400w but thought a 600w would give you a better yield. I know the bigger wattage covers more, but I only want to get 3-4 girls going at one time.

That may change later if I am successful with the indoor method. I also know I could add CFL's for light augmentation and better lower/lateral growth.

Thanks! :leaf:

i wish i had got the 600 instead of the 400. The 600 is a nice light when my grow is over i will be purchising a 600 just for flower and use the 400 for veg. Go with 600.

I wish that I had gotten a 600 instead of the 400. I have a similar sized space and I could have used the better light penetration. Here's a tip I learned with my first indoor grow, trim everything from the bottom of the plants. I ended up with a lot of popcorn at the bottom of my plants. It was such a waste.

Just make sure you can extract the extra heat. I recently ordered the Digital Greenhouse 400W MH + HPS system and I couldn't be happier with it. In the space that I use it (bigger than yours), it takes a couple fans to extract the heat.

LOL....no doubt you always want MORE right?! With my budget and limited resources, the 600w will have to do. As far as the heat dispersal, it's winter here and the nights will be in the high 30's, so I think I'd be able to keep them both cool and warm since it's going in an open attic. I'm also pondering boxing or tenting them, but since I bought an auto strain, I won't have to worry about a 2 stage growing operation just yet. I plan to germ the seeds weeks apart so that I have a good and consistent stash supply.

It's gonna be interesting to see at what week they autoflower. I plan to go with a 20/4 light schedule.

Nexgen....400-600 switchable....I picked them up for 220 each I think......I use them for clone/veg......

I run nexgen 1000s in my flower room and I swear that 600 is just as bright.....

The 400-600 is like 4 pounds and the 1000s are like 6 pounds....

better to have more.....than less...:bigjoint:

Good luck Bro

get the 600...i got a 400 hps and mh and i think it was stupid. i got a 4x4x6.5 tent and im going to purchase a 600 to add to my 400 for flower. it produces almost double for 200 watts more(more efficient)

Wow guys, this is super! Thanks for the knowledge and support! It sounds like I should have a great first-indoor grow after many decades of outdoor guerilla growing hell. I'm getting too old for that shit now!

I will keep a journal once the beans pop. Let's go for the ride! And reps to all the great responses

I wouldnt regret getting my 400watt. It did me good. You can get those babies real close to the canopy.

I'd say I need to pick up a 600 though, They will compliment each other.

If anyone needs to complain about bud density or yield of 400watts, they need to revisit their grow techniques and not their lights.

That's actually a good sign in my interpretation. Sometimes wisdom and experience is cheaper than a credit card balance.

Just wanted to point something out. If you plan on growing with 3-4 on the go at the same time of the short ryder plants. Your yield isnt going to be like 2 oz a plant. most autoflower varieties wont even give you an ounce dry, besides the aks from what Ive seen.

So if your aiming for the low 300grams per 600watt light, it would be hard to aim for those numbers with 3-4 plants. unless they are the taller AK's of course

so, if your gonna buy the extra watts, use them. dont waste them, grow more plants or use less energy.

What do plan to do about temperature when the lights go off? low 30's? whats that celcius like zero?
