Anyone using the Advanced Nutrients MelonHead 8" Air Cooled Reflector Yet?

I was shopping around on the internet today and came across an Advanced Nutirents product that just came out last month called the MelonHead 8".

Its pretty much a cooltube 8 installed into a nice looking hood, and it's a decent size at 26" (flange to flange) and 20" wide. I was wondering if anyone out there has gotten a
chance to work with it yet?

I'd like to know how the light dispersion is on it compaired to a regular aircooled hood of similar size and also compaired to a regular cool tube with built in internal and external reflectors.

I was thinking of ordering one cuz it looks like it would kick ass but then again it is the first hood they've ever made so I don't know how well constructed it is or efficient.

Well aparently no one on here is using this cooltube/hood yet. I decided to go with it anyways. I should have it early next week and I'll post my thoughts on it. Here's what it looks like.

Company was out of stock when I placed the order apparently but I just got the email that they got more and shipped mine today. Should have it on friday and i'll let you know how it is.

Well I recieved the hood today and it was damaged!!! Big gash in the side of the hood!!! But even tho it was back ordered and then damaged I still gotta give it up to Greners for there awesome customer service. I would recommend everyone use this company (for customer service and cheap ass prices). I emailed them with some pictures of the damage and they right away sent me a return label. They also said that they would send me the replacement as soon as UPS had the damaged hood in their possession instead of after they get it back so I wouldn't have to wait an extra 2-3 days. I am in no way affilated with this company, just thought that everyone should know how much they rock! They sure stole all my future business from HTG.

did you get the new one yet?? I am very interested in this hood, but am wondering if it will deliver a rectangular footprint because of the flat edges. has any one found a (light dispersion chart??) or any other information other than "it will increase your yields!"?

My bad dude haven't checked this post in awhile. Ya i got the new one, I just have not set it up yet as it wont fit in my closet. I ordered a tent today (DR120w) so I will be setting it up in that on friday and will have a more in depth review of it then. The only thing I can comment on about this hood so far is that it isn't manufactured the best (as in not as heavy duty as say the radiant 6, but this also makes it lighter) but I'm sure it will still blow a regular cooltube away as far as light dispersion. I doubt you'll find a light dispersion chart for it anytime soon as I believe this is the only company in the U.S. that is selling it so far, so not many people have it yet.

Here's some pics of it. Also if your that interested in it you should just try it out. On the side of the box and on advanced nutrients website it says that if you are unhappy with the hood for ANY reason it has a 100% lifetime money back guarantee.

Well I got my tent, inline fan, booster fan and speed controller from greners this week plus some freebies :) which is always awesome. but the melonhead 8 doesn't fit in the tent with 8"-6" reducers and 6" duct on each end, so they are swapping out the reflector for a smaller one for me(once again their customer service has proven superior) so I wont be able to do a review on the melonhead anymore. Sorry to those who have been waiting. If anyone else trys it out though I would like to know what you think about it's light dispersion because I would still love to use this reflector once I get a bigger house and thus a bigger tent.

I think youd be better off with another hood anyway that melon head looks like it has terrible light spread IMO. If you do get a bigger space and you have the room go with the magnum xxl http://www.growlightexpress.com/grow-light-reflectors-4/magnum-xxxl-6-air-cooled-reflector-157.html the light disspersment is awesome and creates a beautiful even canopy without even trying.

Huh, I haven't even heard of this reflector yet. Where the hell have I been?

I've been looking to revamp my grow room anyway, so maybe it's time for something flashy like this. Certainly sounds neat from what the website says. But then again, I can get lost in the Advanced Nutrients website....LOL

I was in one of our local hydro stores here in SoCal and they had like 28 of these sitting at the front door in boxes with one on display. None were for sale and apparently one guy had ordered them all. (lucky F'er!!) I really like the way the hood has angled reflective panels and the HUGE!! 8 inch cool tube is essential in creating a vortex of air moving through the hood instead of dispersing hot air into the entire hood area then being forced out the other side randomly with hot air escaping the seams between the bottom glass and metal edges. The Melon Heads are much more efficient and it allows you to get the hood down closer to the plants without them burning. Not to mention the price is dirt damn cheap! barely over $100...like $128?? for these monsters. I have 4 Yield Master II's still brand new in the box and now I wanna get these... :P

It looks cool I see it every day at the grow store but I would seriously go for the Raptor XXL hood that thing looks like it can really spread the lumens.

Ive got 4 magnums. I love them, great coverage but with your space if you couldnt fit a 26"x20" reflector in there, then the magnum isnt going to be for you. They are 32.5 x 26.25 x 7.75

Those ARE nice. They just wouldnt sell them to me unless I bought 5 grand in nutrients first. I'm not sure how that would be more effective than cool tube in a wing though
