Anyone tried the RioTinto 500w ETL Spyder

I’m looking for a new light that will fit my 2x4 and ran across this. After messaging the company a 500w light with 6 bars using all osram leds is $440 shipped or if you want bars with Samsung leds it’s $610 shipped. The light comes with a meanwell driver and can accept a pwm dimmer.

Also, I’m not sure why this says it’s Phillips and not osram or Samsung.

I was originally planning on building an 8 strip light for my 2’x4’ using photo boost strips from pacific but they’re out of stock and I can’t find something comparable. Do you guys think it would be worth testing this or should I wait until pacific gets a restock of the photo strips or buy different strips from someone else. Thanks!

It is not inexpensive. Wait or go for any of the many alternatives. Not worth the pricetag by far

It also doesn't seem suitable for a 2x4.

if you're on a budget and want ready to hang I would check out Mars hydro SP series

Wonder why these guys using name like Rio Tinto? Used to be one of the biggest mining corporations in the world. Guess it brings them luck?

They have models listed up on DLC. But their own product page looks copy pasted. That spectrograph is suspiciously similar in form to images found in Fluence literature.

Seems like a lot of light for your 2 x 4. Have you looked at cutter for a red + white type strip?

Seems like an interesting option. Ask them about strip temps? Might be able to save on heatsinking and improve efficiency figures by doubling up on strip quantity. Good luck on reply though, they always seem busy.

Have you looked at an HLG kit? They might offer extra discount besides the forum discount, if you talk and explain your circumstances/situation? Never know if you don't ask.

Yeah the $440 is high but after adding up what it would cost to build a light like what’s listed on pacificlightconcepts it’s around $120 cheaper and I don’t have to build it so that’s a plus.

I’ve thought about buying something like that but then I would be in the same boat I’m in now and that’s a lot of uneven areas unless I run the lights really high in the air and turned up really high. I’ve done this for 2 grows and the reflection inside my 2x4 with cobs is horrible. I think the only way to go is with something that’s stretches the length of the tent.

I just discovered cutter and I’m definitely interested in their products but they seem to be out of the 3000k Samsung white and red board just like pacific. Do you know any information about this strip and where I can possibly get something like it and is it 3000k or 3500k

Looking at the spectrograph image on the product page, appears to be a warm white plus 660.

I can see your point about recieving a product ready to plug and play. Prices and choices are growing, not like a year or two back where building was only option for affordable entry. After taking into consideration time, effort, and materials these Asian products do seem to tick boxes.

I recommend looking at cutters Nichia, optisolis line. With 50 k & 2k youll jave a nice broadened of spectrum filling the gaps i regular wites.
I hate plc & they suck bslls

Sorry for the late reply, I’ve been pretty busy trimming. I think I am going to build one after all and not spend the money on something I can’t find a review for. You guys might be able to help me pick out strips. Right now I have a 2’x4’ and a 2’x2’ tent, I would like to run the same strips in both tents and I really only plan on growing photo period plants from 12/12 straight through without veg and autoflowers. Should I still try to find and use 3500k like my light now or would a different kelvin work better? The strips will also have 660 red and I can always add a couple rapid led blue pucks. Will a different spectrum help with making buds dense from the top to the bottom and also help with the smell/flavor profile? I’m not really looking for something that helps grow more bud just better bud. Thanks and I’ll definitely reply faster.

@coreywebster was flowering a strain called Winter Solstice that looked absolutely beautiful just recently in a 3x3ft tent under four High Light UV boards on a 320 watt Mean Well HLG driver.
