I've heard about people putting their plants through 48 hours of darkness right before they chop her to trick the plant into producing a bunch of extra resin and thrichomes. I didnt find much on it on this site but I'm sure a few of you have tried it.

I dont see much possibility for failure here so im trying it out right now on my first grow.

I have tried it and there was copious amounts of grease(thc) and odor(terpines) present problem was I didn't do a controled experiment or have the Finnish product lab tested. Next indoor I will do this same thing to a few strains leaving one of each strain under the lamps and one of each in 48hour darkness. Chopped buds will be taken to a lab for a test to once and for debunk this urban myth

"The Stichting Institute of Medical marijuana (SIMM), the first company to sell marijuana through the pharmacies of Holland, has been investigating the medical possibilities of cannabis, together with TNO laboratories and the University of Leiden.

One of their discoveries has been that to keep the ripe plants in the dark before harvesting could increase their potency. SIMM’s growers separated a crop of mature plants, harvested half of them and kept the other half in absolute darkness for
72 hours before cutting and drying. Analysis of the resulting dried buds showed that some varieties had seen an increase of THC of up to 30%, while CBD and CBN remained the same."

Nice post, got a question about it though. CBD and CBN are converted into thc correct? How would there be a increase in thc, but not in CBD or CBN?

I recently read a post similar to this, the only difference being the op was giving the plant 24-48 hrs darkness before the switch to flower cycle. I would like to know if anyone else has tried or uses this method with better results than just switching cold turkey.

I can't remember exactly this was done ( guess why) but I seem to recall it having something to do with showing sex or jump-starting bud production.

No, they are not converted into THC.

THC, CBD and CBC come from THCA, CBDA and CBCA and they all come from the same precursor element, CBGA. CBN is basically a very slightly psychoactive waste byproduct of oxidized/deteriorated THC.

I put my girls into 48 hrs dark preflower, then 72 hrs dark post flower.
If anything, people pull to early, so an extra 3 days alone, in the light or dark, should be good for them.

Why didn't they put half the crop in darkness for three days, then harvest both crops at the SAME time? Not saying I know enough to dispute their findings, but I do know enough that one crop was alive for 72 more hours... Would that cause a 30% increase of thc? Most likely not especially that CBD and CBN remained the same.

Yes I've tried it. No it didn't do anything good for the plants. At best it's a way to store them green while you trim.
