Anyone on here go to ITT Tech?

I'm thinking of going for mobile communications.. all I do right now is collect unemployment and grow pot and I'm really good with technology/ smartphone ect. and my grandmother would make it really easy for me to go. I'm just wondering what other peoples experiences with ITT are?

They are currently under an investigation by the Department of Education for fraud and have multiple lawsuits against them now by both former students and former employees.

The cost for an associate degree is around $60,000.00. You'll graduate in massive debt and most employers do not even recognize their degrees because the education is substandard. You'll be better off going to a local community college. They're much cheaper and much better education. Some of the programs offered at ITT are not even accredited although they will lie to you and tell you anything to get you in and get those loans coming into the school.

that is what i keep hearing..

I went and wish now that I had never even considered it. I am 100g in the hole now and nothing to show for it. I say screw the small specialty colleges and go to an actual university or community college.

The ironic thing is now I work in the oil fields doing wireline jobs and make a shit ton more than they promise you'll make and I sit on my ass 70% of the time I am at work.

If you pay more than nothing for College , its a rip off.

Anything you want to learn from ITT you can learn for free on the internet, it just takes the motivation on your part to do it. I've learned anything from C programming (Java, Visual Basic, etc) to 3d rendering (blender.org) for free.

If you want certifications you can just learn on the internet and when you feel ready just pay for the examinations.

What specifically do you want to learn?

I'm not completely sure I just know what direction... I understand how to use Linux and I'm really good with doing thing to and on a computer and smartphone.

Buddy graduated from there works in IT at a local metro hospital. Worked out well for him.

College is about who you meet really. Unless you're planning on getting a doctorate it doesn't really matter what you know, just who you know.

I'm going to go to Grand Rapids Community Collage here in Mi. ITT was my grandmothers idea and I'v kinda heard bad things about ITT but now I have done my research I will not go there and will warn anyone looking to go there. I'm 25 years old and NEED to start doing something other then growing weed and fishing BUT I'm good at both of them!

dude get an associates at your community college. its cheaper and you can get a good education. dont let some losers on the internet discourage you from doing something with your life.

I will be I'm going to North Carolina to go see family for 2 weeks leaving Thursday. When I come back I will be going for a tour of GRCC.

I thought about going to ITT. Signed up and everything. About a week before orientation, I saw a school that taught CNC Machining. Went there instead and for $9000, trained to be a machinist.

Go to a community college for a year...maybe 2. Get a 4.0 (or good grades) and apply to a regular/known/respected university. They will take most of the credits (especially if they are in the same state and are familar with each other).

Don't know about IT Tech. But, in general, these tech schools will get you a job. And my wife goes to CC getting here techical project mgt cert and it sucks for her. Having started at Control Data Institute, back in the '80. with no college degree, I'm now a hiring technical senior manger at one of the top three in the world. (Think IBM, Oracle, or HP)

We are not interested in community college. Either you have a Masters in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering from MIT or a few other schools of that caliber, or you can demonstrate deep, hands on, understanding from a Tech School. And you need to show the certification of your high marks.

Just learning on the Internet??? That's a joke. I've 40 years in the biz now. We, unlike most sectors, are still hiring.
You will not get an interview, from me at least, without a Certificate of some kind. The Internet Church of Bob, won't cut it. Thjere are so many folks, especially from India, that claim Java, but, I find only read some books.

Also, if you are interested in being a software developer, my first question will be; Oh? What did you code last night?

As an employer...2 applicants infront of me one from ITT, one with a BA in computer science...the BA gets the job

It's already been said that good connections = good work, but I got my job only because I knew the right people and knew an opportunity when I saw it. Without my connections I wouldn't have even gotten an interview.

Unless I'm mistaken the barrier for cellphone app development is quite low. You might try your hand at creating a cheap, useful app. If nothing else it's something to show to a potential employer. I bet if you put in just an hour a day after school coming up with an idea for an app and developing it you'll have something worth showing off by the time you graduate.

If you are really good already then code your fucking ass off and try to make connections with people who do the work you want to do. Prove to them you know what you are doing and get them to vouch for you.

If you're lucky you might not even have to pass a piss test.

Piss test? It's been often said, if there were piss tests there'd be no high tech! Your mileage may very however.

college is about brown-nosing well respected professors. It is a way to get super references for job applications. The more prestigious schools are where highly respected professed work so you are basically paying more money to get the opportunity to get better references. It is also a good place to find peers with the same vision that may one day become your business partner.

I know people who when to ITT tech and they currently don't have jobs or work crappy jobs. We interview dozens of people a week, a lot say they went to ITT tech, none of them ever know shit so we don't hire them. We are a Linux company and I don't think they teach Linux much at all there because their students don't know jack shit. Linux is the Future of IT and ITT tech is teaching people crap from the 90's that is useless these days. ITT tech is a rip-off when it comes to the IT Field. To be fair, You need to have a passion for it yourself and college won't get you there.

Exactly why the government can't hire appropriate people for server security because nobody who is passionate about Linux ever needed to go to college. (and if they did they definitly didn't learn much of anything)

If your good at IT just go get a job at a small company, they are very desperate. Even if it says requires a degree or experience and you don't have it just go do it. You will get a job if you know what your doing even in the slightest. Unless you want a government job or to work for a huge company you DO NOT need college to get an IT job at a small or medium company, I repeat...They are very desperate...Just go get a job they will hire you..
