Philly has a worse rep than it should. Sure gangsters shoot eachother, but for the most part your safe. I went to Temple last year, moving home this year to save some money, and I lived in West Philly/University City. The public transit is great, culture is great, restaurant scene is awesome, tons of shopping, music, etc.

Idk man, I can't really say choose one or another, but Philly has a lot of affordable good colleges. However, I do love NYC and am looking to move there after I'm done with school.

Chicagos a great city man. Yeah sure it gets cold in the winter, but the summer is great, its usually like 80-90. Just stay away from the south side, and a couple neiborhoods on the west side..

I think I'm the only michigander who hasn't been to chicago
That cake looks fucking delicious

I live in Phoenix...well lets see.
Climate:HOT AS FUCK!!!

People:Just like everywhere else...most people keep to themselves.

Transportation:Not much traffic for a city but at rush hour its insane in certain streets, buses go everywhere(but keep in mind its hot as fuck)

Cost of living:Varies too much to even guess

Overall:I'd move to Phoenix if you're sick of the cold cause its pretty nice every time of the year except March-October which I just realized is over half the year :( i'm moving! Oh and downtown phoenix is pretty sick.

further north means less jobs. i'm trying to get a job in the corporate .com field, and michigan just doesn't cut it

Yo I live in Indianapolis, and theirs lots of colleges around downtown. And Average Salary is 40-55K. IF you get an apartment about 5 miles from downtown a 1 bedroom will run you like 650 and a 2 bedroom will run 800. Downtown is gonna be a little more expensive unless you get housing on campus thats the way to go all safe down here.

Ranking the coolest cities I've been to, this is just my opinion...
1) Austin, Texas - I'm sure everyone who thinks of Texas has the same super conservative/red thoughts flashing through their heads... Austin is the complete opposite. Rent is cheap, 6th street is the greatest street in American for bar hopping, hands down, lots of young people b/c of UT.
2) Denver, Colorado - Clean, Skiing, Chill, Pot-friendly. Loved walking around downtown when I was there.
3) San Diego, California - Perfect weather, Cool beaches, fun downtown, and obviously California has something everyone here can appreciate.
4) Chicago, Illinois - Spent the least amount of time in this city, also don't know a lot about it, but I just enjoyed being their a lot.
5) Nashville, Tennessee - Sorry, I like country music. Made me think of a miniature Austin when going to bars around there.

Chicago, Il

1) What is a typical standard entry level office wage/salary for the area?
Not sure, maybe $18-20 hr

2) What universities are in the area?
Depaul, Columbia, Northwestern, northeastern Il, IIT, U of C, UIC and a host of others

3) What is the rent like for a typical, safe neighborhood, 1-2 bedroom apartment?
Depends on the neighborhood. You pay for space and high floors (top floors in a 3 flat are most expensive, garden units are cheaper) . Lincoln Park is pretty safe, you can get a 1-2br for around $1000-2000
4) How are the neighborhoods?
You can get more for your money in moderately shady neighborhoods such as Rogers Park or Uptown, avoid Neighborhoods like Logan Square, Lawndale, Pilsen etc. Go to everyblock.com and you can do the research
