I love that show. The guys doing the show are pretty left I think, but the show is very fair in my opinion and I think they do a great job of presenting both sides of an issue. Fuck the dude even went and did a meeting with one of the leaders of the Taliban in Pakistan. Literally risking his life just to get their thoughts. You could tell he was a little creeped out, but he asked the dude tough questions that could have easily, and probably did piss him off.
Anyway, I watched last nights episode on HBO. They went to Greenland, and the ice cap there is shrinking at astronomical rates.
A figure they said a few times was that from estimates given early in this century, now in 2014, we are 60 years ahead of "worst case scenario" projections of the time.
The guy at NASA they talked to said even if we cut carbon emissions by 80% this year, and kept them there, that sea level rise is unavoidable now.
The only difference we can make now with respect to ocean levels is if it happenes in 50 years or 200 years.
I didn't know shit was that bad.
Which leads me to think, why the fuck do anything about it now? Even if we drastically shifted course, we couldn't save anything now according to them. And instead of cutting it 80% we are till going to increase next year.
So if they are right, we're fucked, and there is no way to unfuck ourselves. And if there is anything to glean from their inacuries of the past, we're probably more fucked than they say we are.
The good news at the moment is, that although Greenland is melting pretty fast, antarcticia isn't starting to melt that much yet.
So since we can't stop this shit from happening, why are we trying to stop this shit from happening?
