Yeah lots of your overall terpene profile can be lost to the open air if the herb isn't allowed to scavenge the residual terpenes that are locked in after drying but lost if allowed to rest for too long in a suspended open air environment.
Definitely would want to try and find some sizable air tight containers, nice and sturdy to keep pests/dust out, a food grade barrel or bucket/buckets could be used, or also I've heard of people curing in turkey bags, but I've only cured in glass jars myself personally so I can't say much further than that, but I imagine plastic could do just fine.
