anyone know how THC is tested?

i was curious to see if anyone knows how THC, CBD, CBN and other terpenes are measured. do seed companies have the stuff to do it themselves, or do they take it to a lab or something?

i dunno how seedbanks do it but i know you can order a kit off the internet to do it yourself and then send it off to get the results from it. that way you can know the percentage of your own plants.....

but how the pros do it i have no idea.

My opinion: I have no idea how they test it, but they do it very poorly. What the fuck does 22% THC mean? I don't care what you're measuring by - mass, volume...there's no way in hell a plant is ever gonna be 22% THC. So they either have some straaaange measuring system (maybe only looking at triches or something?), or they just totally bullshit it (I think a combination of both).

a) its hard to find that kit
b) its still difficult to determine its THC levels
c) you should be able to get a rough idea from smoking it....

average street weed is 14%. (reference point) highest ever tested was 28-29%

hope that helps....

wow. what puts off 28 29 percent? are there any seeds that do that, or would that be one of those clone only strains?

There is no fucking way average street weed is 14, prolly closer to around 4% or 5% for the mids and 10-15(my estimated avg.) for average high quality nugs($50+ an 1/8). However the vast majority of weed on the market is still the "Shitbrick" strain. 14% would be awesome if that was the average though. Also the only time I've herd 28-29 percent is when reading about the legendary g13 plant. I don't believe there has ever been a 29%(or whatever the equivlent strength to 20% White widow/sensi start/etc is) plant grown.

i beg to differ
there is some pretty fire bud out there
and i'm 99% sure it's done by weight
ppl have spent years cloning and breeding to get some high quality stuff

It's most definitely not done with total mass. Think about it - just the little resin glands = 22% of the plant even when considering all the dense stem, leaves, and bud that isn't THC? I don't buy it. If they measured it that way I'd have to imagine the numbers would be like 1% at the absolute max.

There is THC in the stems and everything else you just descibed so..
i know this because i have made hash oil out of pure stems..
and if you look anywhere in the internet they will tell you that there is THC in almost every part of the plant of course some more than others but none the less..
there is THC in the resin!
and do you honestly think all these ppl would lie over weed?
it's been tested by non-profit research groups, seed banks, etc.
i know erowid.com has an article on that somewhere i will see if i can dig it up but still just look around the internet..

That sounds awfully incriminating.. The DEA would make a killing if they just set up a cheap THC testing kit lol..

Just put a bud in the box, mail it off, and wait 2-4 weeks for your door to get kicked in. "Freeze!! Your pot has a 15% THC content to weight ratio, now put your hands behind your back. You're under arrest for conspiracy to manufacture an illicit substance, fraudulent use of the federal mail system and violations of the RICO act..."

i don't think he mean't male off the actually bud maybe it's like a stick like a drugtest or something, idk....
you could be right though that sounds really suspicious

i thought the percentage count was done by total content of the terpenes itself. not the whole plant or plant matter. when you measure alcohol you measure the amount of alcohol in the bottle, not the bottle along with the alcohol. the pure secretions of the plant is measured and in the secretions the AVERAGE measurements is recorded. remember that these are biosynthesized chemicals produced by the cells in the stems of the whole gland. not does it contain THC, but CBD, CBN, and an array of other chemicals that react and counteract each other when heated. its not like they take a plant and put it in a blender and stick a thermometer like instrument to measure the THC. that would be silly.
