Anyone Here Grown Using These Indoor Type Lights That Go Through Your Roofing?

Saw this link in a thread somewhere here, then I x'd out on accident. Anyone here grown using something like this?

I'm thinking natural sunlight is the best type right and also I'd be saving on my bill, what are you thoughts? :)

I didnt check the link, but im reasonably sure I know what your referring to. Im not sure if they would work for your main lighting, but they may make decent supplemental lighting to an indoor grow.

depends how much light this thing puts out but dont think it would b enough lol

I think it's probably as much as the sun would put out if the plant would be outdoors. Maybe 75 - 85% or so I hope, I asked my father who is a remodeler and he's installed them multiple times before but he doesn't know anything regarding growing & the amount of light needed etc etc

So I'm hoping to get some information here from people that have used this method. It seems very simple and there's supposed to be some type of "lens" you buy @ home depot or your local hardware store that reflects the sun's rays down into your house.

I'm not trying to grow more than 12 plants BTW (legal amount a medical patient can grow in Arizona) in case it matters, as I know these only put out so much light in so much area.

I've installed solar tubes in dark hallways and walk in closets before individually they don't put off enough light to grow under, if you had 2 per plant you might get some wispy bud, but installing 24 in a room? and you might as well just install a skylight.

Thanks for your reply, how much is a decent skylight these days? Not talking installation too just price of it normally, I want to know so that I don't get ripped off when I go get one.

these light would be a total waste of time and energy. They would work great for light up your bathroom during the day but not for a grow room . You would never be able to control the light in your room . On cloudy days you would have very little light showing thru and you couldn't force them on during dark hours. Zero intensity. rainy days would also impact light intensity .
A big fat NO on these lights.

Yeah if you have ever seen these in use, they put out a very subtle diffused light. Barely any luminosity at all, not to mention it is filtering out any UV light which is great for veg. Even a small HID light would outshine these by a ton. good luck and light speed :)

Cool concept, but ultimately not enough light. Maybe interesting for supplemental lighting, but you'd need a hell of a shade for the dark period.

Man, If you got the money and time to install all that stuff you might as well purchase a small tuff shed that looks like a small barn, run some power, insulate the walls and grab a couple of HID's... Then you really don't have to worry about roof leaks and stuff....

Thanks for all the replies everyone, it's greatly appreciated. I'm thinking this would be a good solution for me, I'm not trying to yield 600g of each plant or win the High Times bud of the year award. I just want some extra cheap smoke + I don't want to pay any more for electricity as it's already my #1 monthly bill and I can't afford for it to be any higher.

With that being said, I'm in Phoenix, Arizona where it's sunny mostly all year round. I don't think "rain & other storms" would be much of a problem for me. I got some plants growing by the window right now but I figured this would be a little more effective what do you guys think? I"m sure I am not the only one in a city with lots of sun thinking about this / using this method. Thanks again for all your time!
