How do,

A mate has told me he is thinking of growing mj by using a 50 inch plasma tv.

Is tHis possible.

What do you mean? Growing with the lights inside of it? Doubt it would work.

The basic idea of a plasma display is to illuminate tiny, colored fluorescent lights to form an image. Each pixel is made up of three fluorescent lights -- a red light, a green light and a blue light. Just like a CRT television, the plasma display varies the intensities of the different lights to produce a full range of colors. On the next page, learn how the plasma works.

no, i think he's talking about putting in a video of the sun on a large screen plasma tv and growing plants from it..
should work out fine imo.. :)

One of the dumbest ideas I have heard. Like the guy above said. Just buy some light. More effective and cheaper then a plasma.

Hilarious....won't work. Why not put a pic of a 1000 watt HPS on there. Or better yet put a pic of a lit up MH/HPS bulb.

My grow room is covered with fingerpaint pictures I do of the sun while high. It's a bitch but I have to pull them down off my ceiling each night or they might herm :/

My plants grow really well while I play Modern Warfare but not so much for halo. Its gotta be that Modern warfare has a much better orange-red light spectrum.

i think your friend is just pulling your pants down, he wanted you to make a tit of yourself on a forum such as this

No seriously, he waffled about adjusting the rbg so in veg the blue is dominant - he also went on about uv protons that stimulate the resin production in flowering - when he will adjust the red band to be more dominant - from what he was saying - and he is a pretty smart nerd - he studied how these new plasma light work - and he reckons he can replicate with a tv.
also the fact they are made up of tiny fluorescents wouldn't that in itself grow a plant.

you can grow with a plasma light, it's pretty big actually.. super fucking pricey though, but a tv?? what station would you tune in that had the same image and therefore all the same bandwidths constantly??

tell him to do a journal, and get a blu-ray recording it...

I assume he would simply have a colour image on screen- blue for veg and red for flower - didn't go into that as my head was already fukked with all the science he waffled at me, he also reckons its possible with a backlit led tv when you remove the LCD screen, but he said something about changing resistors etc, now I know it's a wild crazy idea but the tv he's using is a few years old, and with the price of plasma lights, if it works......also plasma liGhts aren't big, they are 9 inch square, and split in 2 parts, one 9 inch square is the light and the second is the actuator, but retailing in us at over 9 grand, but apparently a 250w one would give same output of usable lumens as a 1000w hps. With hardly any heat.
Now if anyone has seen inside a led backlit tv, they have thousands of tiny LEDs, but these are capped at .10w each, but if the resistors or something are changed the output per led can be upgraded- so in theory you could turn a stripped down led backlit tv into 1000w+ led grow light, so why not a plasma tv.
