Anybody grown Thai?

I am trying to choose which strains to grow. So, I am trying to decide partly based on seed company descriptions of their strains.

Years ago we had access to some Thai stick that as far as we knew was real Thai. The high was incredible, not overwhelming but very happy. It brought smiles to our faces. Is that typical of real Thai? I don't hear anyone talking about it but growing up Thai was considered one of the greats. The seeds I'm considering are only about 8.5% THC not that that in and of itself means it's bad.

By the way, I already have Skunk #11 planted by the way so whatever high that produces I don't want to duplicate. I am hoping Skunk is an indica so I have the indica high covered but I don't know what Skunk's heritage is or if all Skunks are essentially the same or not.

heya VH...

So where'd ya get the Skunk seed? True SK#1 is a 4 way mix of 2 sativas, (Acapulco Gold & ???) a haze, and an afghani if I remember correctly...

I've grown Thaitanic (thai x Sk#1), Chocolate Trip (heavily thai influenced), Coco Thai (another thai/SK mix), & Blowfish (oregon blue funk/thai) over the last 3 years searching for that "thai stick" high from '77 you describe...

Unfortunately...I was disappointed. As an indica guy I need something with a noticable high/kick..and to me..many of these were either weak..or just too much "head" to give me a "stoned' feeling. I guess i've been smoking too long/smoking indicas for too long because none of these were as strong NOR AS TASTY as the thai of "old". I'm thinking now that the strain and the "cure" those sticks musta got in the bottom of a boat...etc. could have made the difference ib taste/high/smell we remember so well fromn those days. The thai you/I grow now will taste green with a sweet undertone..but I've yet to find a "chocolate" taste like the sticks of old had time and time again.

good luck

Just for the hell of it, here are some seed descriptions from Dutch Passion:

Durban Poison
indoor, outdoor

Imported from South Africa, produced in Holland. Exclusively inbred, never hybridized, 100% Sativa. Large long budleaves, buds are also large and long with lots of resin. A sweet licorice or anise flavour. “Up” high similar to Thai. High yields. Well suited for outcrossing with late bloomers to produce earlier flowering. Also does very well under artificial light. A very popular variety.

THC: 8.6%
Voodoo ®
indoor, outdoor

We developed Voodoo, a green strain, from Thai parents in 1997. The Thai parents are grown in Holland for years already. A very strong plant with long thick buds. Has a Thai aroma and a clear, fresh smell. Sativa high, very productive.

THC: 8.2%
Sacra Frasca ® indoor, outdoor
"Sacra Frasca" or "Holy Joint" is a F1 - hybrid between Power Plant and Skunk Passion, both true-breeding varieties. Power Plant, is a renowned variety like White Widow or Orange Bud, which you will find in almost any coffeeshop in the Dutch cities.. a result we are very proud of. This variety is only available in its feminized form. For the creation of this hybrid we used feminized Skunk Passion "pollen" to fertilize a female Power Plant. Therefore the features of Power Plant are most pronounced in this hybrid. Very potent and energetic uphigh, caused by the hybrid vigor of combining two genetically very different Sativas. Sacra Frasca also gives very good yields in a greenhouse. Through the "open" Sativa growth pattern a very mold resistent variety. Respectable yield. Bracts and also fan leaves carry lots of resin.
If we smoked real Thai back in the day then wouldn't something from true Thai parents have to be similar? Then if they say another is up high similar to Thai what do they mean? I wonder what the real thai high is. I would think more people would have talked about it if it if it's something special though. I am still curious about it.

FWIW the Skunk #11 seed came from Dutch Passion. A friend bought it in Amsterdam I think. From DP's website it doesn't appear to be all that celebrated.

Forget Thaitanic et al=these are the beans u looking for.

Just grown 7 feminised out and no hermies 6 weeks into flower

World of Seeds Wild Thailand-they come in non feminised too and packs of 3 for the fems if u only want to start with a few then clone best

Wild Thailand (7 Seeds) - cannabis seeds

I got 3 distinct phenotypes from the Thai girls two very tall one of whick was thick buds one thinner straggly buds and one short stocky masses of sticky even only half way through

see attachment for the short pheno at 5/6 weeks

Last time I grew Thai one took over 22 weeks to finish but I hung on to that weed for a year for special occasions it was truly stratospheric.

World of Seeds are absolutely the business as far as quality Thai landrace are concerned- the buds are looking phenomenal and clones from each are vegging

Happy growing
