I have changed water over, idk it keeps coming back, at one point I thre like half gallon of very weak molasses water mix in it, it was leftover and I figured it would be so diluted that it's be fine. I don't know if that stuff is alive? Maybe an organic micro bacteria? Or is it bad and messing up my plants? I have added and used like 20gallons since that molasses incident

is the water bucket near light? You need to put a top even on the water bucket to keep bugs out and light from growing algae in there.

time to start adding bennies to that tank after its cleaned

Also a re-circulation pump/filter would be good as spraying a jet of water onto the surface of the tank can give more benefits then a simple air pump and stone

Do you get any rise in ph or a white foam develop on the surface of the water ?

What's bennies? No foam. Ph is high out of the tap it may go up a little after it sits with the air stone I'm not sure

Ok

Yeah the ph normally go`s up as the chlorine and so on leave the water also if the water gets warm and the ph creeps up a bit that can quickly lead to rot and all kinds of other things growing in your res

Bennies is slang for "beneficial" meaning beneficial bacteria and fungus as well as other enzymes and microbes that people like to use, you normally add a little sugar/molasses to feed them to help them grow

If your just adding sugar to the res and letting it bubble away then you maybe be growing something else, and that can lead to some really fast dying plants, bad root rot will kill plants, fuck leaves and cost yields sometimes it can happen really fast too

What just straight tap water ?

In a light proof container with a recalculation pump or bubblier keep the temp under 22c if you can

but get some "root grow hydro" or if your made of money "great white" or orca or TNC`s hydro

That or keep things really really clean but if it`s brown algae aka red algae actually not an algae at all but bacteria it can be really really hard to get rid of by just cleaning and refilling, also you can get some products that stop or slow the bacteria there normally copper based.

Just after using dwc with air pumps and so on I`ve started seeing that if water is falling then it tends to stay fresh longer hence why I think them fish tank type recirculating pumps and even a vortex can do just as much if not more for your water then an air stone will
