Anybody ever do any D.I.Y. pad repair?

I dropped my pad and the LED shattered. Tempted to just buy the part and pry that sucker apart myself. They got youtube videos and shit.

Anybody ever try this on their own? It looks easy on youtube but the guy doing it had one of those big, long "Jesus" fingernails so he could have been insane.

Whenever I ask that question I take it in. Because half the time I end up taking it in anyway and paying for a spare part. Especially if it's an Apple product, so sorry about it. I'd worry you could have tweaked the case just slightly out of true, not visible, but enough to affect the screen repair etc..

If you do try it I hope it goes well for you. Let me know.

had a mac repaired once because i was too scared to attempt it. $400 later, was good to go again.

fucking jokesters gave me the computer back with all the colors inverted, the screen display upside down, and all the characters in what must have been farsi or cyrillic. they hit a few buttons and it was all normal again.

fucking computer nerds.

I've done laptop screens (pretty easy) but not a Pad, how much is a replacement screen?
$41 for the LCD, the outer glass (they call it the digitizer) is fine. It comes with a little Chinese plastic pry tool that looks like it will be as useless as tits on a bull. But I got some dab tools that should do ok. Static is an issue of course. I will gird my head in foil.

A tin foil hat was the only advice I could offer ,,, but it seems like you got that covered already ..GL

It was a serious bummer. Not much of a drop and it was still in the case - but it was concrete. The outer glass was right as rain but I could see hairline shatter marks on the inner section if I tilted it. The next morning the one side looked like you spilled ink on it. The next afternoon it was unuseable. now it is just black with a few pixels waiting to be cast into the void.

A larger question is "do I let my son watch the repair?" I am certain he will never be satisfied watching a 3rd-world-tractor-stuck-in-mud-solutions video on youtube again (you cannot believe how resourceful a Burmese tractor driver can be in monsoon season). He will be prying his mommy's kindle apart with a spife (combination knife-spoon that comes with golden kiwis) every chance he gets.

The kid has no idea what a spork is but he has an amazing collection of spifes. wtf?

I think I am most daunted by the prospect of getting it all to fit back in with that perfect rubber gasket. I envision having to tape the whole thing together with medical tape.
I had to change the battery on my key fob for my car and was shitting a brick prying that in half ......I'd have a stroke doing a tablet .....seriously GL and keep us posted on how it goes if you decide to tackle it ...

Yeah I've done it before. Not on a tablet but on a phone. Gotta do it again soon. Came from the store and sat my iPhone 6 on the couch with my e cig on top of it(not thinking) went to bathroom to blow nose, when I came out my screen was cracked to fucking shit. My dog jumped on the couch, onto the phone and broke my screen. Im using it now and it's a major pain in the ass. Already ordered a replacement screen. $45......fucking dog.

I started growing at the age of 18 and i quickly realized learning construction, plumbing, electricity and ac instalation would all be things i had to become proficient in in order to avoid having several people come over and sort shit out for me.
Almost 10 years later i can literally! turn a hole in the ground into a top notch grow room with the help of some tools, materils and a lot of patience.
