any1 ever use 5gal buckets for an outdoor grow? im thinking about it because i rly dont want any 7/8 ft monsters this year lol.

also, has any1 ever just droped 40 bag seeds in2 a hole and let them all go ? how effective is this.

I have read about people growing outside in 5 gallon buckets and hoisting them up a tree with a rope for security. I've never done it. I'm sure it's been done before. Why not just let them grow and top them or train them?

Re: your second question, I guess it depends on the size of the hole. How about spreading them out a bit and covering them with topsoil? 40 seeds growing close together is going to make it hard to weed out the males.

Check out my 5-gallon, outdoor bucket grow from last year. I got 7 foot + tall plants (Sour Diesel and G13/Haze).

Biggest thing to remember: drill holes in the bottom of the buckets for drainage, and water the plants OFTEN during the middle of summer.

Buckets dry out really fast, especially during the summer, as the plastic gets real hot. It's fine as long as you can water every 3 days at least.

You can plant your two seeds per bucket no problem. I did that. Just make sure when you put two seeds per bucket, to evenly space out the seeds, and to not put them too far to one side of the bucket.

Don't put two seeds right next to each other in one hole.

Don't be THAT lazy that you don't at least space two little 1-inch holes equally apart in the bucket for each of the two seeds.

1 seed per hole.

Trust me, you'll save yourself some trouble when you wanna get rid of whichever is the weaker seedling.

This way, whichever seedling you pull will give the other plant the appropriate amount of room on the side to grow lateral roots without much restriction.

alright ill keep that in mind. i was planing on lettin them grow untill root bound in the 5gal then cuttin off bottom (before of course then held with rope untill i cut it) this way i no where the roots are to fert them yet they will get the other bottom soil.

Man, that sounds like a real PITA (pain in the ass) to me. You don't need to worry about the plants getting root-bound. You're not going to get normal monsters, but they'll still yield nicely.

Like I said, I had 7' + plants in my 5 gallon buckets, and I didn't start mine until mid-June.

I have no idea what you're talking about with rope.

im talkin about drillin 4 holes in the side near bottom . then cuttin 1 inch of the bottom of the bucket off ok. from there string rope in the holes and this way the bottom will stay on untill i cut the rope. sorry i was extreamly baked for the previous post lol. ur right, i dont think ill need more than 7ft tall. ill be planting in april again this year. in hopes i could flower sooner by moveing buckets this way i can harvest sooner.

That's interesting, I've never heard of anyone using anything besides molasses with any measured success.

Maple syrup is a new one for me! How much did you use each watering? I'm surprised you didn't have major insect/bug problems using it....not to mention nutrient lock or some sort of soil acidity problem.

Congrats!

this was my first grow , it was kaya gold 10th generationed seeds. my buddies dad has grown the shit right under my nose for last 10 years and last year i managed to buy some and got 15 seeds from it (ended up with 3 females :,(. was my first succesful grow so i was happy about it lol. the tallest was 8.5ft and shortest was 7ft. this the only reason im lookin at buckets, i thought thoes plants were 2 stretched out. the branchest were around 3ft long at the base brance.

thoes were nice, idk yet ill figure it out by the time i plant. i still got ... 4 months. so you think they would def get 5ft give or take few inchs?. also, ill have more controle over the soil wont i ? like ill beable 2 make sur it gets all the water/neturts but also cleanse it when its sick?.

i also have an idea about a hedge ima try this year. i got like 70/90 bag seeds from reggie that im just gonna put in a big circle 5/6 inchs apart. (probly 2 dif hedges possibly 3). these wont be taken care of as much but more or less just something i can pratice on an get a lil reggies 2 part with later on.
