Any suggestions on how to improve my set up?

CFls and T5s
are best for starting plants ...after that the amount they produce on the plant is crap compared to a LED or HID

Hid will give u the most weed per plant with about 30% fluffy buds ......LED will give u the thickest buds about 10% is fluffy

I have never flowered under t5's or cfl but it just don't make sence to flower under hps or leds in a pc case its just too small the heat alone will kill the plants
may be somthing like a 80w hps would work or 80w led but in a room 8" wide by 16" long the canopy is small and it will be difficult to fit leds and hps an less you buy the led tubes/ small lights can't see any led panels fitting in the room

totally agree fellow, most of its down the skill of the grower over anything else top job mate :)
Those aren't mine. But I had similar results growing indoors in winter in Alaska. My only screwup was adding them too slowly. And using bulbs unnecessarily large. The 40-watters are perfect if you use a lot to get as much light penetration as you can. The larger CFL require larger, and more expensive, reflectors. They create more heat and I saw no difference when I switched them out for 40's and more of them. But I had to be convinced by others on here that it can be done.

That said I only resorted to complete grows under them because of high bills on my 2 1000-watt HPS. I still used the HPS but got a lot more good weed when I expanded using CFL. Indicas do much better under CFL in general but any shorter plant does well under them.

I ditched all photos and files when we moved from Alaska to Texas so I could finish my employment and retire. Canada is awfully hinky so we threw all glassware, kept our testing equipment and deleted and and all files of pics or anything showing pot. Never got checked. Bought some really good weed in Whitehorse, Yukon. Then some really really kickass shit down in Stony Prairie, AB. Drove it right through the US border at Piegan, MT.

i have used every light there is minus plasma .....hell my LEDs are programmable (veggie flower and UV )

a PC tower grow ......that is not worth it .....the amount u get out of maybe 1/2 oz vs the power the time and the possible trouble u can get into ....it is not worth it
growing a plant that gives u 4 oz or more that is worth it ..........but 1/2 oz shit get that for 100 -150 bucks and not look at time for growing (10 -25 years)

I made one almost like this but with a few more CFL (12 altogether). That thing could veg like mad. Short bushy plants with thick stems. Perfect for topping and training. Slower growth than with MH but much cheaper and much cooler temps.

I totally agree. But I guess a fellow has to do what a fellow has to do.

"However, that is only part of the story. Plants use mostly red and blue light. Yellow and green light is of little use to them, so light that is emitted in these spectrums is wasted energy. Most of the light emitted by HPS lamps is in the yellow spectrum. Only a small amount of the emitted light is in the orange or red spectrums, which plants use efficiently. Warm white fluorescents (2700 Kelvin) emit a greater portion in the red and orange sectors.
Although fluorescents produce only about 75% of the light per watt that the HPS does, the amount of light usable by the plant is equal or probably higher with the fluorescents. You may wish to experiment to see if adding a single cool white CFL to replace one warm white results in shorter, stouter stems and more vigorous growth. The reasoning is that warm whites don't emit much blue light, which the plants use for photosynthesis and to regulate their growth. The cool white bulb supplies the blue light.

My call for your unit would be to use several (three to five) CFLs with a total input of between 120-160 watts. Although the 150 watt HPS is a bit more efficient that the CFLs in total output, watt for watt the fluorescents provide as much useful light as the HPS lamp. Heat is another consideration. The HPS runs much hotter and emits more heat than the flourescents."

I use fluorescent fixtures - T8 - in red temps standing vertically in my flower room.Right next to the plants. At 48" if I prop them they cover the entire side of a plant. My bud production went way up. I mean way up. Especially side buds. I rotate my plants a quarter turn every day to get even coverage overall in the life of the plant. I get the fixtures used at a building materials recycler and they run around $10 with tubes. The tubes are usually the wrong color for any of our purposes.
