Any SE Texas or at least Gulf Coast growers?

first time grower here, in SE Texas where it is very hot and humid in summer, and this climate stretches all the way to Key West so surely there are others growing in this same sauna.

i read about mold being a problem in hot humid areas, and i am sure there are other issues, so looking for advice and tips!

i have 2 females, pineapple punch and dosido cookies, 4 weeks old now, just topped yesterday, thats my first issue in that they're meant for a bit less hot climate but can i still be successful - using shade cloth maybe? good for concealment as well

growing outdoors in a vegetable garden equipped with drip irrigation in very organically rich soil, all organic as well. . pretty sure watering as much as i do tomatos and peppers and melons will be too much for the cannibis, so i may have to cut them off the system and hand water. thinking the drip system is good since that way i wont be getting the whole plant wet every time i water.

next year will be looking for a strain that is more proven here but these seeds were free so i thought i'd get my feet wet and learn.

any mentoring is appreciated........

well i grew tomatoes 2' tall on my kitchen table waiting to plant them!

My biggest problem is bud rot taking hold right around harvest time. Real bummer, but i just pry the affected calyx out and say a prayer for the rest of the bud to hold until i chop. Idk if its my strain or just dumb luck cuz i barely get it and dont treat for it.

do you keep the internal leaves pruned out so its more airy inside? drip irrigation to keep the plant dryer as well?

I got out of a nice a/c vehicle at a gas station in Houston one time. No fun to be had in that much humidity.

Yep, im on the gulf coast..and its hot as fuck here, i water every other day until rainy season arrives

@surfgeo i dont go heavy but i do trim yes.
No i dont do drip irrigation my spots arent near my house...lol im actually kind of aggressive when i water cuz its usually blistering hot and i just want to get done with the chore. Dump a gallon and move on

For some reason Texas and cannabis scares me. But it seems like they're moving to decriminalize possession of under an ounce. Here in Portland there were stories of people getting busted and going to jail in Texas for just a seed. That's probably just an urban tale but we figured it was true at the time.

I drove from Dallas to Shreveport/Bossier City once. I couldn't wait to get on a plane and back to the PNW. I also drove into Lubbock from Hobbs New Mexico. I couldn't wait to get the hell out of there.

Almost every time I've gotten stuck at an airport by delays was in Texas when they shut things down for some nasty thunderstorm. DFW and Houston. I thought I was going to die one time flying in a small commuter plane from Abilene to Dallas it was like we were flying through a tornado. People were screaming. I was wanting them to shut up. Their screams were the last thing I wanted to be hearing if it was going to be lights out. Then I was stuck at DFW for hours watching lightning and hail while they were not letting any planes take off.

I liked the people and the barbecue but there's no way I could live there. The damn weather has been crazy down there. How are people dealing with all the flooding, hurricanes, tornado's, and now the freezing temps in the winter. That's got to be brutal.

Gotta love texas, just wait 5min and the weather will change, almost got 5 inches of rain last night, and another 3 today...gonna taper off tonight temp feels good, but tomorrow is gonna be brutal temp from th 70's today lower 90's tomorrow. Well at least we'll dry out....

oh i understand people with hesitation about Texas! i dont know how we survived the 60's playing outside all day, then came football in aug and sep. but i am a 6th generation Texan, with an ancestor who was stationed at the Alamo but discharged a month before the attack - but fought in San Jacinto which if you google is one of the most important battles in world history because it made Texas, which at the time went all the way up to Colorado. My Texas pride runs deep. Texas first - but i am a patriot as well.
My favorite hobby is wildlife photography and i get up into Yellowstone and Glacier to photograph grizzlies and such so i DO enjoy the breaks! i always take them in summer of course!

and believe it or not at 9 yrs old i decided i was going to be a surfer, even though the beach is 70 miles away - didnt matter - a good group of us learned here during high school and have surfed all over the world - me as big as15-18' in my late 40's - now i just ride the smaller stuff under 10' in my 60's... .

and the saltwater fishing is awesome even around Houston!

so it's what you make it - i am a redneck surfer with a brain - our cannibis laws are stupid for sure - but I sure do like our support of personal freedom and the 2nd amendment. my plants are well protected...
