Here's where I go. This lead me to half a dozen federal grants for school that added up to over 13K a semester. O.O

Not surprising to find Obama in that mess... Just on a side note about Obama...I find it funny that NOW he is all for freezing govt. spending, when McCain ran almost his entire campaign on that premise, and Obama would hear nothing of it. I was not, and am not, a huge McCain fan, in fact I was bummed when we ended up with him as our nomination, but he did have it right in that area. And finally Obama came around...but would he have, if not for the house take over? I don't think so, I think if not for the take over, it would be business as usual in DC. But anyways, don't want to hijack the thread...

Yes folks! The United States Pell Grant is a real thing and it'll give you $4,000 a semester for tuition!

...And charge the tax payers. I don't mind paying for someone who uses it correctly, but when you party through college and flunk out while using pells, THEN I have a problem. That is the problem with the current state of pell grants, and why the program is under fire.

Yip. Now take the governments 100k investment in you and start your farm....And charge the tax payers. I don't mind paying for someone who uses it correctly, but when you party through college and flunk out while using pells, THEN I have a problem. That is the problem with the current state of pell grants, and why the program is under fire.

Good grief, it's the truth, 10,000's upon 10,000's of students every year take govt money, (which is NOT the govt's $$ anyway, it's OUR money, TAKEN before we ever see it, without our permission, and used for things we may or may not agree with), and squander it away @ college. Does everyone that takes a pell waste it? No, of course not, which I already mentioned I didn't have a problem with.
As for me and my hypothetical farm...if I was to get a grant or loan, I GUARANTEE you there is more scrutiny and approval process than with a pell. I know, I used pells in college, it's basically a matter of signing on the dotted line. I can't just walk into the FSA, sign on the line, and get a loan.
