You lost me at "no clones". That puts you at the mercy of others or at the mercy of yourself, selfing.
I hope what this spam poster ment (seriously OP dude chill with all the childish threads) is no outside clones, I would hope he wouldn't discourage folks from cloning their gems from seed.

"Jorge Cervates MM growers bible " really?
Really?
beginner eh?
You might not like this but, it's true!

READ up on growing tropical house plants!
get yourself an African Violet...Your goal is to get it to bloom.

While you are doing that. get yourself several books on growing MM. I suggest these 2 to start.
Ed Rosenthal's marijuana growers handbook

Jorge Cervates MM growers bible

Did you say organics? Then also get these for sure!
Teaming with microbes
Teaming with Nutrients

NOW read them and read them again! Ed's is best for growing and Jorge's does nice for room design and ok for growing. Keep in mind that these guys will have some not so true opinions, like "flushing" - that's a myth! learning and doing a proper cure is by far more important ....

Once you get that African Violet to bloom - You can start growing MM and not have all the normal beginners failures and persistent asking of mind numbing basic questions that everything I told you to do,,,COVERED!

Avoid the ASSUMED short cut of simply trowing a seed in dirt, and asking questions as you go here. The failures you will have are no more then lost time to your real goal!
Invest in basic knowledge before you start.....

CHOOSE WISELY!

I own both of the books being discussed and have read them cover to cover.
Good info, but sometimes they contradict themselves. Lots of content, but I get the impression that much of it was just crammed in there with little concern for consistency.
Information is helpful, but there's no substitute for experience. You would be way better off finding a mentor than buying books or watching youTube videos. (IMHO)

I'm about to plant my first seeds.

I have about 20.

If I'm not mistaken, I need to plant them in the seedling pots and keep in the shade for three days, after which I move out to a sunny spot and await germination, 10-21 day period?

Is that right?

Don't listen to any advice coming from someone who gets angry at others for doing it the "wrong" way because its not their way... Narrow minds are not good teachers...

Ed and Jorge have spent forever in the industry and have access to people and gardens most do not but show me something they grew
Pick up Ed's book and there are plenty of pictures of some plants he has grown. He was arrested for growing medical Cannabis in California years ago.

Ed Rosenthal has masters degrees and a lifetime of experience growing. His book has never steered me wrong and is very easy to understand. It is a good book for new growers.
if ed rosenthal has a degree, its honorary, the only university he ever attended was youngstown in ohio and he did not graduate.

Ed Rs books are all very good but I think the cannabis grow bible by Greg Green is a much better compilation of cannabis growing knowledge for noobs. True living organics by the rev opened my eyes to the fact that it's easier, cheaper, and more sustainable to grow in natural soil than any other method though there is a small tradeoff in yields. The revs book assumes you have growing exp so get exposure first before diving in.
One thing I wish somebody told me long ago when I started growing is that mj plants do not need bottled nutrients to grow. You can build or simply recycle a good soil and just give your plants mostly water. You can have a worm factory for a supply of free compost for life; a benefit that cannot be understated. The end result of organic growing tastes better than any other method I've tried though I don't get insane yields like when I ran aeroponic rails al a stinkbuds system. I do get an exotic product that surpasses anything I can find off the street but I've always been quality over quantity because I only grow for me and my ol lady.
Ever notice nobody "feeds" the trees in a forest?....yet they grow very tall and healthy...that's because they are fed by soil microbes that are slowly consuming the decaying organic matter on the forest floor. If more peeps grew in natural soil they would eliminate most problems with ph, nute burn, etc. overnight because microbial activity is how all plants have evolved to feed themselves for millenia. Humans invented nutrients so they could have a store & sell you crap; plants don't care where they get food from. It is consumerism: people think it's easier to buy something to fix their problems than it is to figure it out and solve it themselves. My 2 cent

I'd have to disagree with your don't throw a seed in the dirt bit, some of my best experience comes from actually handling a plant that was having trouble rather than reading about it. I fully encourage growers to go outside of the realm of agreed upon knowledge and try different set ups and experiments to get a better idea of how the plants grows and responds to what you do it.

I need to make a collection but there are a number of posts where users go way over board trying to get their seeds to pop. Heating pads, special mixes, soils, methods...jeez...

I've never failed to get a seed to pop by putting it in the soil. I just poke a little hole with my pinky, put the seed in, gently cover it up without packing down the dirt, then gently pour about a shot glass worth of water onto it. I then use a spray bottle to keep the top soil misted (my light dries out the soil real quick) and within days I have seedlings. In my experience, you can make it faster by popping seeds in a damp paper towel.

You're free to do that. I think your missing the point or don't really understand what I'm saying. Yes you learn from failures BUT, you'll have less failures to start if you know something about what your doing first. Your statement about popping seeds is exactly a point of order to what I'm saying.....Hell man, the reading of cervantes sections on room design and set up are the best parts of that book! How much do want to spend on failing to get it right?

If you start with some knowledge. You have LESS fails to your first dial in. From there, experimenting and actually LEARNING from it, is going to be quite easier!

Come on man, actually reading about how to do it vs. the many that come in here and say things about nothing but failing or asking how to with out any kind of growing knowledge is actually, well, stupid!

i think i started this whole debate about books, and i didn't mean to, i didn't say mel frank or ed rosenthal or jorge cervantes were dumbasses with nothing to say, i wasn't even refering to them.
i was actually refering to a book from about ten years ago i bought recently at the used bookstore, thats very slick and has a lot of nice pictures and fuck all for useful information.
and even then i believe what i said was to ask questions before you blindly follow one persons advice, even if that person got a book published.
