Any ideas how to cool an 8ftx8ftx8ft room with 2x1000 hps?

Hi all,

I am in the process of setting up my flowering room and I am in need of some help and advice.

The room is 8ftx8ftx8ft walk in closet and will contain 2x1000 watt lights. I would like to add a carbon filter in the room too and be able to control temps. I need to ventilate this room as successful as possible.

Does anyone have any similiar sized room they use, or any ideas to properly ventilate my room such as:
1. What type of fan and cfm to cool my lights and room
2. Suggestions on actual set up of ventilation system.

Anything anyone could add would be very helpful. Thanks in advance

6" inline fan venting out of room.

Draw in air from a cool source. You should have no problem unless you want to seal the room. Then you would need air conditioning.

Thanks for your reply. The room is actually a 8ftx8ftx8ft walk in closet. I think i am planning on to leave the door open and stretching panda film or some other strong reflective material over the door way. Then cutting out holes for my ducting to go through.

Then I plan on having two to three fans. Each of these will be suspended from the ceiling and their ducting will room through the holes in the door way.

1 fan for exhaust with a carbon filter probably a 650cfm

1 fan for sucking hot air off the lights since the lights will be in air cooled hoods(or do you think i should blow air onto the lights to cool them. Ive heard that sucking hot air off the bulb is better) around 450cfm

1 fan maybe for intake around 210 cfm blowing cool air into the room near the bottom of the room.

Hopefully this will produce optimal temps. Does anyone have any opinions?? or suggestions..

u got the right idea..have u bought the 1000watters yet..upgrade to a pimp hood that has 6 in air cooled kit instead of 4in..id run the bigger cfm fan to the lights..daisy chainin them together cutts ur cfm way down..infact one side of 1 lights hood can be tied to the large carbon scrubber, and the other side connected to other lamp..and at the end of run flex duct goes to ur inline fan and up and out..that way u just use the 1 big ass exhaust fan to draw heat out of ur reflecors, and smell in 1 swoop.. i think this will work for jsut two reflectors..depending on closet and temps right outside that..u still may need portable a/c..unless ur intake is much cooler air, like from ur crawl space ..or a shaded side of ur home

I havent bought the lights yet. I was planning on getting some 6 inch air cooled reflectors.
As far as set up goes are you saying i should get like a 800-900 cfm fan and hook it up as follows.

Carbon filter---->Light-->Ducting---->Light---->ducting--->800-900cfm fan--->ducting out of the room?

does that sound about right? just trying to clarify what you said. Also would i need to add ducting between the carbon filter and light?

Also since the closet floor is carpet, should i cover that with some sort of reflective tarp or panda film also?

If you want to remove heat from 1000w hoods its not just a matter of shoving the largest fan you can get through them, air traveling at 100 mph aint going to pick up any heat at all, 600w need about 250-300 cmh each so i would add a bit and double it for 1k lights, about 680 cmh, and dont run them in line, keep them seperate and balanced on the input side, preferably drawing from outside the building.

Venting the room is sumat else entirely

i would say a 6'' HO exhaust fan w/ 600-1000cfm will do it...and yes hooked just like u have listed. daisy chain them..and yes youll have to flex duct the carbon scrubber side too becasue those suckers can be big and heavy..so youll use something like plumbers tape to hold em up..and run ur ducting to it.. this will improve your lights...in the sense they dont get over worked and hella hot. youll be able to probably touch your hoods after doing this..you may still have some air issues..and need to say ad a portable a/c unit. im runnin 2k like u wanna have a 10,000btu a/c ...and 6''exhaust (not air coooliing now((not optimal))) w/ like 300cfm exhaust..and another squirl fan blown in cool fresh air at 180cfm....the room is a 7x7 ...with the exhaust and intake as mentioned...if i run my lights w.out a/c i breech the 90's and 100's. AC 75 degrees w / all 3 running together

listn to u...OP just asked if he should get a 800-900cfm fan..ur reply is pretty much No thats crazy, thats like 100mile an hour winds..with no heat removal...ahh but go with the 680cfm..dude how can his extra 200cfm hurt..F*** sakes

there are a few different options you could use without having to use ac, i would use 2 6 inch fans, one for pulling air through the hoods and one for a vent from the top of the room, or a single 8 inch would do the trick to but the main thing is cooling those lights

You can run them inline. get a 6" canfan 460cfm or there about. you could run 3 in a row with that fan. is your room sealed? cut a 6" hole down by the floor. put your filter up high, exhaust out. Textbook. You'll be fine.

The room is a 8ftx8ftx8ft walk in closet. Its connected to a masterbath and bedroom.

The room is sealed besides the crack under the door.

With all these new things i think i will have to add plus if i have to get an ac unit, I have no idea how i am going to be able to wire all of this together. I know nothing about electrical work or wiring. I had simply planned on using heavy duty extension chords and powerstrips run to diff parts of the house so not all of the room was on the same circuit or breaker.

Does anyone have any other ideas i could do? I feel like if i set up a new breaker specifically for my room and had to run wires and make two new outlets for my room that i would have to hire someone to do this.

Putting the room 0n it's own circuit is always a good idea, with a little knowledge and instruction, it will be repetitively simple. There is an electrician willing to help out on RIU. Is this a house? Do you own or rent? What is above the room? Attic? if it is an attic, go up there and tap into the A/C and run a 6" duct, or cut a hole in the door, if stealth is not an issue. doors are cheap to replace. If you cut a hole in the door you can pull a greater volume of conditioned air from the room. Vent your lights up in the attic. From what I understand, you only need 1-6" fan venting into the attic, with a filter attached to it. and a small bowl of ona. Give us a drawing of the room and more details.

If you pull the conditioned air from the room the closet is in, and said room temp is say73, the closet room will only be 2-3 degrees higher with the setup I mentioned. This is an easy setup. not much work @ all. people tend to over engineer ventilation. If you have 6" going out, then you gotta have 6-8 coming in. I like 6 coming in because it creates neg pressure. There will be air entering through the crack under the door.

Its a house that my friend owns. The two rooms we were considering using, both are located below the attic. We could cut a hole and exhaust in the attic but would have to be able to cover it up, if other people where to visit or if his family were in town.

I feel like cooling the room and exhausting air would not be a problem if i could get all the electrical stuff worked out. Im simply worried about using too many amps in my room.
1.) 2x1000 watt hps (dont know how many amps they run)
2.) Fans
3.) AC unit if need be.

Is there any sort of breaker box i can simply buy somewhere that can support enough amps to run all of this. A simple breaker box that i can just plug in? Something like this?

That sounds like a good plan. I just need to figure out how to wire all of this. We were planning on looking at the breaker box and seeing how many amps each room could withstand. Then use heavy duty grounded extension chords and power strips that will be run into rooms nearby to be able to support all of the watts.

I think venting into the attic is the best bet. We will just have to find something to cover the hole up when we disassemble the room when his parents come into town. Maybe just a simple vent to disguise it as an ac vent perhaps?
