any caregivers making a good living?

I am just curious if any caregivers have been able to grow for a good living. I have another business but would prefer to focus more on the caregiver business, so long as i can support my family.

60K a year, minues taxes. I don't work with charity patients though. I only do business with upscale patients who can afford conessiour quality meds, not the crap coming from most "caregivers". My garden was a $10,000 investment.

Amen brother. Finally someone speaking my language.

The point of being a caregiver isn't to get rich, but help the people who need it. If u are getting into it with the frame of mind "how much money can I make" then you have completely missed the true spirit of the caregiver program. I'm not saying that you should not be compensated for your time, but don't think how can I get rich? think how can I help people out and the rest will take care of itself. Good Luck!

The arrangement I have with my patients is that they get 1/3 of crops grown in their name, and after that $200 an ounce. Both self and patients find this to be a fair arrangement. I'm in CO though.

let's do some math-

1.5 ounces per week=78 ounces a year

78 ounces a year X five patients=390 ounces per year

390 X 200/ounce=78,000
minus electric 150 a month=1800
" ferts 100 " " = 1200
" general fund 200 a month(fuel, water, buckets,etc.)=2400

so 78,000-5400=72,600, that you would pay taxes on @ roughly 30%(until next year then 50%)

that would be 50,820 left. not bad eh? i've been thinking of these numbers for awhile now. i'm sure there would be more deductions if you were imaginative(women owners pay less). but 50 grand take home is a good bit, for charging a fair price for meds that help people.

Supply and demand....if the patient wants to pay next to nothing for their medicine then most of the time they will end up with a caregiver who doesn't have that great of pot. If you truly want the best of the best to medicate with then you will usualy have to pay more for it. At least that's my two cents.

I don't think it is possible to get wealthy from being a caregiver no matter what. If you want to get rich off of cannabis then start a dispensary. That is if you don't mind the legal risk involved with it still being a grey area of the law.

If you REALLY want to make good money then just sell on the black market, and leave the caregiving to people who really do care about helping people i say.

Thanks for doing the math, but what you illustrate actually shows that I would make closer to the original 78.000, as I grow pure organic ( nothing from bottles ) so all my nutes are free with the exception of a little epsom salts and molasses ( I produce excellent compost ). My lights, LEDs and floros, have increased my electric bill by only $40 a month, and as well as grow rooms I grow outdoors during the summer which provides a much bigger yield. Since I have lived most of my life on less than half of that 78K, this would put me in a very comfortable position in regard to income. Also, there is a growing movement, here in Colorado, to get a complete legalization law on the ballot next year. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

I appreciate the input. I was simply curious. It requires a lot of time and money. I can also appreciate the desire to help those in need. However, I dont think anyone is in position to define the "true spirit" or actual "point" of caregiving. Like anything it will provide different things and fulfill different needs in different people. My patients arent really in need, rather they are just buddies who happen to get their card, so my moral obligation is not as strong as some providing for patients who really need it. Though I think having the primary goal of helping others is wonderful, its just not my situation. I see an oppertunity to earn a nice supplemental income doing something challenging and interesting which will allow me to spend less time at my other job and more time with my wife and daughter. That is my goal. I dont hold up the illusion that it will be a get rich easily sort of deal. Thanks for the replies.

Assuming you stay 100% within the law...

quite honestly unless you got 5 to 10k to invest and have wealthy clients and even sometimes then it seems you wont really make as much as people are quoting here, it seems to me that realistically you would likely only make about 20k to 30k if you are being incredibly fair and considering the time you spend (physical labor). You really need to have another job in my opinion but you could support yourself it just wouldnt be that great if you have a lot of bills and not much money to begin with you would be basically living a upper-lower class existence. It really depends on your situation, you could make about 60k-70k under the best circumstances.

I would place the caregivers wage at:
-5k to 25k AVERAGE .......Most People
- 30K to 70K - Your a badass caregiver under the best situation and you played your cards very well :D

Not with me. My caregiver even gives a free oz. per month. And the quality is amazing. I need a tiny bite of one cookie 1-2 times per day. I mean tiny.

Maybe it's a MI thing? Seriously, if other care givers/centers felt this way, we in MI, would be screwed. So few can afford script meds let alone med mj. Sorry people I get very offended when someone pretending to be the good guy acts just like the big guy. I'm thinking this may not have been the right forum to join after all.

I charge my patients (3)$100/oz a month and $200 after that one oz. Like the guy said before it isnt about making money its about making a quality of life nicer for my patients. Any overages I have are farmed out to our group and thats $250/oz. Anything over that outside the group is $350/oz, but that hasnt happened so far.

hey guys, im a fellow michigander and was wondering how exactly one is to find patients? the mmj website or is it word of mouth or do i just go asking people hey do you smoke mmj and can i be your caregiver:) ???good to see a lot of MI peeps around here!!!

I am just above Detroit by 6 hours and south of the Sault Ste. Marie bridge by 5 hours ;-)

word of mouth, I am a member of 2 local compassion clubs and picked up my patients here after weeding thru at least3 dozen...90% rec. users and 10% with real needs to be fulfilled.
