Ok this is mt 2nd indoor grow the strain is purple diesel. It was a seed i discovered in a bag of potent diesel not to long ago my set up is basically a closet with 1 125w 4 23w and 1 14w cfls keep them close to plant and a pc fan to move air around .. i have a concern if i need more light for flowering she has been in flower for 6 days so far.. i have a 400w buld in hood no ballest do u think the 250w of cfl will be adequate or is it a must to invest in ballest ... she was vegged just short of 5 weeks .. any other info u need i will gladly suppy thanks ahead20140729_161611.jpg

The more light the better. Just be ready to handle the higher temps that come with any upgrade. Consider a bigger circ fan - and adding an exhaust and intake if your going with HID.

Ditch the 14w, just adds heat for nothin. Its definitely worth investing in the ballast for the light, go on ebay theyre cheap. You can get one that does 250/400/w600w all in one (hps and MH) so u can upgrade at a later date, or run it at 250 for veg, 400 for flower.
250w of cfl for a diesel plants vegged 5 weeks will leave you with fluffy buds as you will probably get a decent amount of stretch.
If it were me, id get the ballast, and I would use the cfl too for the lower branches and sides. bend those branches down too, let the light in and stretch out those bud sites and your yield will increase..
Definitely use fans and ventilation when using HID lighting, like Pinworm suggested for sure.
76F is Perfect, but anywhere from 70-82 is acceptable.....
Off topic...i noticed its a purp D...during the last 2 weeks of flower, if you have a 30F temp difference between your day and night temps you will pretty much guarantee a nice purple colour.

Ive tried the cold water and it didnt work for me, but could have just been the particular strain. Ive also heard that cutting your plant down and throwing it in the fridge overnight does it too, but I dont know if it would work or not. In theory, it sounds good, but maybe the fridge is too risky for me lol.
Cold water is good tho, it holds more o2.
If a strain is purple, then it should turn purp all by itself, or if theres purple genetics in it somewhere, usually letting them go full-term will bring out some colour.
To 'purple' a plant technically has not alot to do with the actual cold temperature, but rather the temperature difference between day and night. I just cropped out a BEAUTIFUL Sour Secret from DNA (LA Confidential X Sour Diesel) and at week 8/9 it was turning all sorts of red/yellow/orange and purple. Like a goddamn maple tree...she was a beauty and a stinky bitch too. 11 weeks i let her go for

As a side note....anytime your plants is purple, it is only about 30% efficient at photosynthesis, as compared to a green plant. Red chloroplasts (purple leaves) are not as efficient at absorbing sunlight and turning it to sugar as chlorophyll (green matter) is.
A plant always (not always lol) has the purp/red/orange/yellow colour, but it is overshadowed by the intense green of chlorophyll, when the chlorophyll starts to die off, we see the nice colours of a beautiful cannabis plant.
So, if you want purple plants just cuz it looks cool, then go ahead, but if you think it means better, stronger weed, then no. That purple sour d should be the bomb tho......
the Pink Kush from reeferman was Da Bomb and right purple, frosty and potent, earthy and sweet. 12 bucks a seed, 10 weeks flowering

Thanks Nuikala the strain is purple diesel shes been turning purple since she was 2 weeks but she. also grew very quick and thick so i figured it wasnt a deficiency i was just looking for help if she didnt display nice purple buds at the end of her flower what line of nutes would u suggest for lowering im using pure blend pro bloom soil mixed with a lil miracle gro cactus formula It says ad 10-20 drops per quart i use that per gallon as of now wit pure blend at 7.5 per gallon i posted pic of cactus npk level should i use calmag or some type of bloom booster. .. and thanks everyone for the help much appreciated

I use Advanced Nutrients PH Perfect 3 part Grow/Micro/Bloom for vegging, and PH Perfect Connoisseur for blooming. I use Bud Candy for a bloom enhancer. Bud Blood when i do the switch to 12/12. If i run out of bud candy, i just use CarboLoad instead.
I used to use General Organic Biothrive line, but I couldnt keep my PH stable using all-organic nutes. Havent had a problem with AN PHP.
If you water with tap water, you shouldnt need to use any calMag unless you see a deficiency.
For soil, i used to use expensive organic fancy soils and worm casting and all that stuff...always had ph issues.
Now i use Pro-Mix (peat based), perlite and vermiculite, and a decent planter or hanging basket soil, in a mix of 50%-30%-20%.
It seems to work well for me, retains moisture well, PH neutral, waters pretty easy and doesnt compact. I grow in 6 gallon fabric bags (like the grocery store re-useables) they work awesome, theyre a buck, and you get huge root mass and lots of O2 uptake to the roots. You cant over water them either, which is great. And they have handles :-)
I recently (last 2 grows) used bloom enhancers and definitely noticed a difference in stickiness and smell. I dont know about yield, i always grow different strains lol. I avg 3-4 oz a plant, 6 plants, under 600W hps and some cfl.

very well vegged plant. I suggest u bite the bullet and buy a ballast, it will pay for itself after you harvest her. CFL's suck for flower, you can get good buds, but your yield will not be good. a 400w HPS will make a HUGE difference, but remember it will be hot and may cause you to need additional ventilation.

dont wait untill that long into flower, and make sure the water isn't too cold. I used to give my GDP cold (~40 degree) water on every fresh water (no nute) watering for all of flower (once there were actual buds) and it would always turn purple even when my summer temps were like 85+ in room.
