another dumb preflower question

Hey all, please forgive a dumb question, and yes, I am sure that this has been asked somewhere by someone at sometime, so sorry in advance.

Here is a fictitious scenario.
Lets say that you had a random unknown Indica from bagseed, that you have been growing for a couple months or so, and noticed very small, indistinguishable preflowers on the nodes, however, when you look at the armpit thingy under the top new growth, you see what appears to be male preflowers. I dont see a ball on a stick, but something that looks more like a cat paw or something. it looks pointed at the top, but it isnt smooth. it is segmented like a cluster almost, which mostly resembles pictures of a male ball cluster, although not at all as defined.
I know a photo would help, but from this description, should I just wait it out? at this point, it doesnt look like the pictures of female preflowers at all. is it just too early? 12/12 for about 2 weeks almost. Am I looking in a bad spot? should I wait until the lower nodes do something and look there? Could this cat paw looking thing turn into a girl, or would I just be screwed?

This is what is confusing to me. What I have doesn't look like any of those pics at this point. All the male preflowers I have seen seem to grow from a stick like thing, mine do not, the base is flush against the stem. Could this just be a strain issue? Also, they are the same basic teardrop shape as the female, but when i look at them under magnification, I see what looks like what I can only explain as segments, and no hairs. I have looked at every picture of preflowers I could find, and nothing looks like what I have.
