An electrician in the house ? need help

ok here's the problem.. im not a genius when it comes to electical work... i was testing to see were the light escapes my grow box..

so i took my 105 watt cfl screwed it in the holder thing and attatched the two cords comming out of the bulb holder onto a wire that goes into the wall.. it alredi came attached to the plug.. its like

=[ ]-----------= <-- two wires comming out..

Two wires -> ===[ ]O <--- Builb..

i attacked the wires together just wrapped around lightly.. cuz i wasnt useing it as a perminant set up... just for testing... and i plugged the plug into the walll and it blew the circet or something.. i had to go flick the circut switch back and forth... to get power back to that part of the house ... why did it do this ? and how can i fix it... i dont want that happening when im growing.. or when i have 2x3 times the wattage on that plug

was it because i didnt attach the wires right ? or... ( i saw a spark when i plugged it in) Some1 plz help im like a day from starting my grow.. seeds germinating as we speak..

sounds like there is a short some where in the system most likely where you spliced the wires. Make sure they aren't touchung and are capped with a screw cover or E-Tape. Good luck

I think you may have overloaded the circuit. I don't know how to fix that, but I think it's fairly easy. I'm not an electrician ^_^

its only a 105 watt thing.. i hope that didnt overload the circut or im really fucked....i hope its just that they fell in a certain way and were touching....

Ok...what did you do? If I understand you correctly there are two wire coming out of you light socket, should be black and white. If you are attaching them to a cord it should be a grounded plug. Three wires. The black wire will be the one on the right side of the cord, the white wire will connect to the left side of the cord and the green one should run to a Grounding spot. so you don't get shocked. Turn off the circuit first. Hook up the wires and at least use wire nuts to hold them together. Now have everyone stay away from that area and go turn the breaker on. If there is still a problem the breaker will kick back off. If I could see a picture of what you have I would be able to give you good advice instead of just advice. Please, I don't want anyone to get hurt. This should not be a difficult job. VV

if the breaker tripped like that sounds like u wired it up wrong. most light bulbs do not come with a ground unless they are heavy duty so if there isno ground dont worry about it the neutral wire (white wire) will serve as the ground. make sure u connected the wires correctly white to white and black to black or black to red and u should be okay. If it sparks n trips the breaker then u have a short along the line and you can either trace it out to find the short or u can use new wire and re-wire it.

I have to agree with everyone else, wired wrong or short. But what no one else has said is WTF are you doing? If you don't have electrical experience don't experiment with it when you are breaking the law. If you start a fire and fire department and police show up you are SOL twice. Just my opinion...I have both High voltage and low voltage experience(more low voltage) but I wouldn't go around wiring shit up in my room just me, good luck
