Yep, I was ... but only to those who thought the company owed them a living. I expected exactly a dollars worth of work for a dollar's pay. Even though I've been out of management for over 30 years, I STILL have some of my old guys stop by from time to time. They knew I wasn't there to win a popularity contest. And ... if you survived as one of "My Guys," you could hold your head up high. You were known as a hard worker, an honest person and a real ball buster. If you survived as one of my guys, you could depend upon me to back you to the hilt. I admit, not everyone could work for me, and the reason was, the other guys wouldn't allow it. The standards were set WAY too high for most to survive. Those who DID survive were of a different breed. Kind of like the Marine Corps Med ... only a few good men.
