Am I using too much light?

I really dont know if this is an overwatering or underwatering problem? I usually only water every few days until the soil is really dry and dusty. I watered today and checked on them a couple hours afterwards and they were really droopy all the sudden! ): im using miracle grow moisture retain soil with half of the mix as perlite. I havent used fertilizer yet and they are a little over three weeks old I believe. Can anyone help me?

Or maybe too much light? I just got rid of two plants in the grow area and now put the lights the other plants were using over these two. I watered them as I did this. There are no humidity or heat problems but would the lights be still too close? They are a couple inches from foliage

Ph is 6.8-7 stable
Tap water

1/2 MG moisture control soil
1/2 MG perlite

2.5 gallon pots

2 23watt 5000k
and
2 23watt 2700k cfls per plant

Humidity is 30-50%
Temps go 70-80F

I have a box fan on 24/7

They were completely fine until today when I added the two extra lights per plant and watered...

I may be misting the plants excessively as I mist them once or twice a day until they are drenched.
 
I dont see what other informationI could provide besides growspace and light cycles which seem irrelevant... but the growspace is 2x6x7
Light cycle is 16/8 as im trying to ween them into flowering
 
I assume you're using CFLs? I don't see light burn there. Not familiar with MG moisture control, but looks like maybe over watered to me. Perhaps the soil wasn't as dry as you thought? If its over watering, all you have to do is wait for it to dry out. You should wait for a second opinion, tho. I'm not going to pretend I'm an expert.
 
Don't need to spray plants unless you are foiler feeding. Your temps and humidity are fine. What is your run off? Have you been using this same water throughout grow? Could be chlorine in water? Stop spraying, check run off, and use air pump to add oxygen to water and get rid of chlorine if there is any.

Misting isn't necessary. Twice a day? You might be root bound. You're only using half the pots, not enough for the size of them.
 
Yeah I thought keeping the plant moist would keep bugs off the plant if they came. How do people get away with growing an ounce in a solo cup then? I dont understand if they can be rootbound in that much soil then theoretically couldnt a plant become rootbound even if I had enough soil in there to fill the pot?
 
Just checked runoff and its at 6.5. I appreciate all the input guys honestly I hate struggling with my own inexperienced thoughts
 
You're growing in Miracle Grow moisture control right? You say you're letting it get very dry between watering. There's very high odds that you're just over-watering as that soil holds moisture like a sponge and while it's dry on top, I'm betting the bottom is like mud.

While I have no problem with Miracle Grow as it's OK soil.....but I believe it may be your issue here. If you're asking my advice, I'd transplant them (it's time anyway) into 3-5 gal containers and switch to some normal potting soil.....if you have the money, get yourself a bag of Happy Frog.

And any time someone starts talking about PH in a soil grow, make a mental note that person doesn't know what they are talking about.
 
Your thoughts are greatly appreciated roach, im convinced youre right. I wasnt even thinking about the moisture control really, I did add a one inch layer of perlite at the bottom of the pot as well to aid drainage but I guess its not enough lol. Ill transplant sometime this week if possible.

Moister encourages some bugs and mold. Anybody who told you they grew a oz in a solo cup is lying. And yes, they can if they grow enough. Figure a gallon of dirt for every foot in height, more or less.

Some soils are too acidic or alkaline to grow in, but I doubt anything you might buy would be that way. If your water's pH is way off, it can be detrimental, but it would have to be really off and poor soil, too.
 
They look overwatered. The best way to tell if they need water is to pick up the container,and feel the weight. I have done a side by side comparison of MG moisture control and FFOF, and Roots organic, and FFHF, and the MG really, really sucks, comparatively. The other 3 were roughly the same, each with it's own characteristics. I think happy frog is best for the price, and has great drainage.

I'd transplant to a bigger container, water only when the plant needs it, and lay off the foliar spray. I'd try to find some better soil, too. You can buy a cheapo moisture meter from any gardening store, too. That may help when you are unsure of then to water. You'll get the hang of it after a short while. Good luck!

you can get real close with cfl's meng
 
Repot with a different soil and a bigger container. Just the regular miracle grow potting soil would be better than that wet soil.
 
Cslstickyicky, I have been using that method of hand weighing the pots. They felt light as a feather before watering yesterday. But as lilroach said that MG moisture control sponges up water. I dont know why it still felt light but I watered again until heavy, yet no drainage. I will stop the foliar spray and I will go get some fox farm happy frog og soil in a day or so when im free. Going to upgrade to 5 gallon pots and actually fill them up all the way lol...
