Hello everyone im a first time grower, wanted to make sure i had enough light on for my plant to grow well. Right now im using three light fixtures i have a 2 foot 13 watt fluorecent tube hanging right above the plant, a 67 watt light bulb lamp in the corner, and a 2 foot fixture hanging about a foot over the plant that has 3 20watt halogen bulbs. Everything is incased in a small closet wardrobe about 2'L x 3' W x 6' H also i put tin foil on all sides and bottom of the wardrobe im only doing one plant possibly two is this enough?

is the 67 a FL? i'm pretty sure you need more lights. i'd use CFL's if you are using that low of a wattage.. most 6500 CFL's are 23 watt (for vegging) .. Halogens are always good but a 20watt one is not good. but better then nothing i guess

you should look at my set up. . let me know if you wanna see.

foil creates hot spots. the halogens are doing nothing but adding heat. what are the other bulbs?[/QUOTE ]
no i have 3 20 watt halogen bulbs so its 60 watts, plus the 67watt light bulb idn what type it just looks like your standard light bulb dont think its flourecent though. and didnt know that the flourecent bulb i bought had only 13 watts had to convert from 120vac 60hrts just found out today and started becomming skeptical

there is no halogen that will work for growing, wrong spectrums. you need to know what light and what spectrum you have or it will be a waste.

okay how many watts is ideal for one plant, and should i just use all flourecent? im not gonna buy some expensive lights online or from a grow shop though just gonna get what i can at home depot or ace

you can get plenty of bulbs that will work at lowes hd, or walmart. use the 26w cfl's in 6500k for veg and 3000k for flower. use 6-8 of these at least. i think you should just read about what lights you need, there are plenty of posts here. my main thing here was to tell you about the halogens.

Like stoner said Halogens are pretty useless for growing. What spectrum is the floro tube. Is the 67 watt a cfl or a regular incandesent ? If it's incandesent get rid of it and add a few 6500k cfls in place of the halogen and incandesent. Alternatively try using a few 6500k and 2500-3000k cfl bulbs from start to finish for an ideal spectrum. Post a few pictures of your set up so we can see what you are working with and advise you better. Best of luck with the grow.

so the only light you have in there that possibly could help is the floro(depending on spectrum). if your walls are white take that foil down, flat white is better reflector.

I agree get rid of the foil. For one plant try vegging with 6500k daylight (Cool white) cfls from 36 watt upwards and 23 watt ( warm white) 2500k , buy a couple of " Y " connectors use maybe 4 6500k along with your floro and 4 warm white. Keep the flouro for the tops of the plant along with 2 x 6500k and 2 x 2500k keep the lights roughly 1 to 2 inches from the plant. Use the other 4 bulbs as side lighting 1 x 6500k and 1 x 2500k one side - 1 x 6500k and 1 x 2500k the other side. Veg for 24 hours or 18/6 under the lights. Rotate the plant every day at lights on. The same lights should be fine for flowering, you can add a few more 23 watt warm whites when the plant is ready for 12/12 flowering( lights on lights off) if you like.
It's advisable to have a fan for cool fresh air and a vent or extractor to expel the stale air and smell, you can buy cheap carbon scrubbers for the extractor fan. The bulbs are very cheap, you should have a great set up for a couple of bucks. I'm no expert just started an indoor grow myself , it can be trial and error to start. Good luck.

thanks for the lighting tips, im gonna see what i can do at lowes today. but ill take the foil down walls are white, and i do have a fan blowing from the top down, and i cut a hole in the bottom right and put a carbon filter over covering the hole with a smaller fan blowing outwards through the filter, so i think the air circulation should be good. but i dont think im willing to spend over $100 ill repost tomorrow and show you the improvements

Your welcome. You are well ahead if you have a fan and ventillation. I don't know the American prices on lights and fittings but I estimate about $ 40 for the lights and fittings. I'll be surprised if it costs much more. You can probably buy the bulbs in bulk packs it should work out cheaper.

Well hope this works bought a 600watt xenon light a 600 watt flourecent light and a 410 watt led light spent 110 not to bad. The xenon and fluorescent light are only 2700k though couldn't find any 6500k lights but at least I know I can grow weed now

I could be wrong but I think the xenon light might be useless to grow with, I don't think the spectrum is any better than incandescent lights. I could be wrong. You may be able to exchange it $ 110 seem expensive for light bulbs, I'm surprised you couldn't get any 6500k daylights. Your definitely going to need at least 6500k to veg the plant with. Maybe someone can point you to where to get them, I'm in Ireland so I'm afraid I'm no use to you in that respect. I've read here that wal-mart sell both 2500k and 6500k bulbs in various watts and reflectors too.

even my grocery store sells the cfls you can grow with. i dont think you are listening to what you have been advised, so i will save my breath on that. now, on your circulation. heat rises, cool drops. you need to reverse the flow so it exhausts from the top, not bottom. this will be much more efficient.
