Am I doing this right? Seed germination

I've got about 8 seeds of an unknown strain germinating at the moment.
Got the propagation chamber for $8 from my local store
14W 28cm x 28cm Heat Mat http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/705-53470-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5575015020&toolid=10001&campid=5337196227&customid=&icep_item=261090355715&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229515&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg
LED grow light for about $25 http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/705-53470-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5575015020&toolid=10001&campid=5337196227&customid=&icep_item=130614887647&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229515&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg

I've got the seeds in grow cubes, damp, instead of using tissue etc. I've got the heat mat under it and the LED on top of the propagation chamber. (Not standing as pictured).

I've seen mixed videos online about it, so I'm not entirely sure if I should be providing them light because it'll damage the root. Help would be appreciated.

Cheers - XYZ

You don't need light until you have leaves. Make sure, once germination, that you don't over water the cubes. Also, once you have leaves, you will not need the dome.

I germinate in the dark. Plants do not need light at this stage.
The other important thing is to have the seeds in an air-tight
container while waiting for them to sprout. And they have to stay moist!
