I keep hearing there are professional rippers utilizing the internet to locate grow sites...via uploaded photos.

And tis' this season.

Is there any merit to this?, and I'm assuming devices w/o GPS capabilities are safe from this threat?.

If someone is dumb enough to post a pic with metadata then they're lucky if they only have their grow stolen.

Haven't heard of it myself.

"Metadata may be written into a digital photo file that will identify who owns it, copyright and contact information, what camera created the file, along with exposure information and descriptive information such as keywords about the photo, making the file searchable on the computer and/or the Internet. Some metadata are written by the camera and some is input by the photographer and/or software after downloading to a computer. However, not all digital cameras enable you to edit metadata;[SUP][8][/SUP] this functionality has been available on most Nikon DSLRs since the Nikon D3 and on most new Canon cameras since the Canon EOS 7D."

I happen to use an EOS, just found this w/simple google search.

So basically I should be editing shit for optimal security?.

I think some photo sharing sites strip the data for you so you could use one of those. Otherwise, yeah.

I just use an old camera.

a pretty good way to do it, get gyazo, its a screen shot program and upload a pic and screenshot and save the screenshot. i have an s4 and even though it says my gps is off my phone still knows right where i am.

It is not just pictures. It is every piece of information; cross-referenced.

You see maybe just by one or two pics it's impossible.
But let's say you said you lived in Blah state.
Then in that car thread you said " i drive a honda blah-ster with bazillion valves and all"
And on that exercise thread from months ago (that one dude that wanted to get back on track) you said "the park is two blocks away and i do two laps around the lagoon"
Wonder how those two pitbulls you said you had are doing
As well you can work out house layouts by some growrooms pictures. Specially when they cure the weed they show a unaffected part of the house, hence somebody could easily infer that you live in this part of town where houses have such form.
You might have other usernames similar to yours in other websites... google is amazing!

When you take all that and find the handful of people that are a match, it is pretty easy to find you. It is what Banks and Advertisement companies do all the time. Google Ads does it too. The NSA does it too. It is called data mining.

im not sure of this but i would really like to know if this has any merit...where di you hear this friend? technically i think this may be possible, but ireally have no idea, just a guess.

Data mining, filtering and triangulation is all true. It goes quite deep actually. In LA all your movements are tracked from the traffic cameras. Add facial recognition and there is a record of your movements. Up by my house there is a 172 constantly rotating over head sending live feeds on all of us. Many grows have been busted up here because of it.

Anyway yes interlinking data is dangerous to us.

I know a Japanese Dr developed some awkard looking glasses that disrupt FR software. There's also these decals that go on your face, think like that black ink or tape football players use. Also I read traditional facial tattoos disrupt it. I'm calling it now, in the future, probably before I'm dead an uptick in facial tattoos will be attributed to this software.

Edit: I have to imagine if I were a bad guy in cali and wanted to move around like someone else there would be some FX stuff around I could get pretty easily to change my appearance. lol (not that I ever thought about this type of stuff)

My 4s has no service yet my GPS still shows where i am at all times :/

Seems like it would be easier to just grow a plant than do all that.

Hmm. Seems like the tattoo would back fire down the road. It's like saying you don't want the police to be able to spot your car, so you put a permanent pink unicorn on it to fool them. It works until they figure out you have a pink unicorn on your car, then it is more identifiable than before.
