His process comes from a thread where OP barely provided any pictures of his end product. Also the OP of that thread claims to makes quality BHO, but the pics of the stuff he posted looks like poop soup. So, maybe dude needs to find new Tech, say, something more proven to provide a desirable tasting product. I'm Not trying to be rude, but within the first few pages I saw lack of competency and quality of product from the methods derived from the Oakley thread... I tend not to follow techniques from folks who post poop soup calling it quality... I don't know about you...

This is what I'm talking about. As soon as I saw this, and claims that it was "quality BHO" all credibility went out the window. again, not trying to be rude, just an observation... Could be dated technique, since it's an old thread.

ive seen stuff look like that come from my live extracts.. wont shatter. or wax.. but will turn into little brown sugar consistency type stuff. with an amazing smell and taste..

Live resin, sugary yes, gooey and dark not even the slightest.. People are calling fresh frozen BHO " live resin " everywhere now, and they don't even realize it's not live resin, there's a process to this shit..maybe not you, but People are stoops sometimes...

I've had brite yellow off one strain and brown sugar color off another, indicas that were finished tend to, IME, yield darker oil.

Taste / aroma was always concentrated smells of the flower extracted from.

Brown and gooey is never good IMO. Sugary yes...

I think it might have to do with the actual trichome head. I feel the color is relative to the trichome phase its in, and the solvent used. More cloudy or Amber, or purple could be really dark too... But ISO and old trim that has degraded is usually always rather dark as well. Chlorophyll leeching too. Lotta factors. I can tell you this though, I consistently don't like the taste of that darker brownish shit, shatter, wax, budder etc. but I do enjoy that dark brown sugar grease that comes from cookie strains when you make ice wax...

ya i dont care what its called lol.. live or fresh cut directly frozen.. or fresh dried and frozen.. dont matter to me..too many to mention lol.. as long as your shit comes out nice.. its fine lol. ive noticed a more yellow color on earlier pulled stuff.. compared to if i let a strain go till very cloudy with some ambers.. the oil will come out a lil darker.. and for me so far.. a lil more potent. more of an orange instead of a yellow. but i got some great yellow too.. strain dependent also..

got a strain right now. that has a hint of purple in the bho. wen u look at the trichs.. the ones that are normally amber on most strains.. turn a light purple on this strain.. its very cool . i took a bunch of clones.. so when i move into the new place.. i can run a full run of this purple stuff.

As has been noted, amber trichomes make a darker extract than clear trichomes.

In older desiccated material, where there is no moisture to freeze and lock things in place, both green and degenerated brown chlorophyll byproducts can also come along for the ride, as can other plant pigments.

I've gotten the lightest colors and even almost colorless transparent concentrates from young sativas extracted fresh frozen. IE:Skywalker

Going back to my previous post, I expressed my taste for grease. Now, this is something interesting. I harvested a black scout plant, made ice wax which was brown sugar color and full melt in 3 bags 38u, 70u, 120u, also made shatter out of some, and my shatter was piss golden (for lack of a better word) but the ice wax was brown sugar color. Maybe a little contamination or plant debris? It's a wonder, to say the least...

Interesting comparison of extracts from the same strain. My guess would be water soluble pigments.

High monoterpene levels can leave a concentrate soft and greasy. They are alcohols, ethers, aldehydes, ketones, esters, etc, which are all solvents to the sesqui and diterpenes.

i like fresh frozen . dried 10-14 days.. then pack tubes.. freeze.. and blow.. on heavy smelling strains.. i get a nice brown sugar consistency.. an orange on this sfv og x skunk va cut .taken at 80% cloudy 20% amber about can never be 100% sure exactly but that's about how close id say it was.. . honestly.. the best bho i have ever got a chance to make or buy ever .. just taste on the inhale.. and the exhale. and up to an hour later.. u can still taste it .. lemony rubbery gassy kushness
