Alright Barack Obama supporters, now what?

Dave, I thought you said you would reserve judgement until Obama was in office.
My statement above was a judgment of Obama? Funny...I thought it was a reaffirmation of the kind of POTUS we need in office.

If Obama pushes to cut spending and vetoes any out of control spending bills sent to his office then great. I'll say this much though...With all the "Bread and Circuses" he's promising the masses, it's not looking very promising. Surely you agree, yes?

Obama is just the front dude for the same old democrats.
For real dude, Hillary for Seceratary of State, what the hell is NEW or CHANGE about that crap! Joe Biden, get the hell real man, he is an old fart for sure. And my pocket book was fine back then.
and I forgot nothing as my dad went to nam so I remember dude, I remember!
He's putting a wide variety of people in his cabinet, both from inside and outside Washington. This is about compromise. A lot of Hillary Clinton's supporters were upset that she didn't win, so he gave her a pretty sweet job. Now, I personally don't like her all that much, and I'm one of her constituents, but I think that was the right call on his part. He's said since the beginning that he wants his cabinet to represent all Americans, and so far he seems to be going about it the right way.

Hey Dave, I'm just curious. You've used one of my favorite terms here, Bread & Circuses and I know that it came up on the Monster McCain thread (that looks so funny, wording it like that, lol), but I'm wondering in what context you are using it here. B&C alludes to gov't, a la Rome, distracting the people with prurient entertainment . . . kind of like Britney, Paris (I read today on yahoo's news "headline" that she broke up with someone--wow, that's news, right?) and so forth.

So what is the incoming Obama administration doing that falls into the category of B&C, in your opinion?

To me, the outgoing adminstration were masterminds at it. The color codes on the bottom the TeeVee screen, the talk of altering the constitution to specifically outlaw gay marriage, the talk about "they hate us for our FREEDOM," and so on and so on, ad nauseum. Awesome B&C diversions for the masses.

I don't usually agree with you, but I know that you are pretty well informed on a lot of topics, so I am genuinely interested in hearing you out on the Obama/B&C reference. Thanks.

Dr. Pot? I kind of agree that H Clinton is the right choice for Sec of State. Chuck Hagel would be good as well. So would POWELL. Any of those would have been okay with me, but I do see the need to heal some rifts, even though it disgusts me to form an opinion based on that political posturing. Even I'm guilty of it, I guess.

What a world, huh?

On that note? I think I need to put on What A Wonderful World, this being the holiday season and all that fun stuff, all the diversions.

Question for anyone: WILL it happen this year or will we find ourselves in even deeper economic quick sand, once too many of us refuse to spend like we usually do? Scary stuff, huh?

What a wonderful world. :peace:

Heavens no! I have recently gotten wind of a lot of infighting among the natives here re naked gals, camel toes, and so forth. I just wanted to get on board and support the guys. If any users want this site to get all puritanical, there are other places to hang online.

I suggest WebMd.

If not, I am totally lost re your comment here. If you guys want to be taken seriously, get your minds out of the gutter!

Oh, I love hypocrisy!

Correct. It also alludes to giving the "masses" what they want regardless (i.e. "bread"). This is one of my favorite terms as well.

So what is the incoming Obama administration doing that falls into the category of B&C, in your opinion?
Government sponsored healthcare for one. Additionally, when Obama went on record and stated that he wanted taxation based upon what is "fair" alludes to more "bread" for the masses. I'm also afraid of waht an Obama Administration, coupled with a Democrat controlled Congress, will do with my 401K.

The forthcoming Obama Administration promises a lot of bread. The "circuses" appear to be well hidden. I've not heard one word from Obama about curtailing spending. I've not heard, or read, one word that he intends on withdrawing troops back to the US. In fact, his intent is to INCREASE our military might. His track record of voting for spending bills, voting for perpetuating war, voting for bills that curtail our guaranteed constitutional rights have been marginalized by the media. We conveniently overlook these in favor of the "bread" he's promising us.

To me, the outgoing adminstration were masterminds at it. The color codes on the bottom the TeeVee screen, the talk of altering the constitution to specifically outlaw gay marriage, the talk about "they hate us for our FREEDOM," and so on and so on, ad nauseum. I wholeheartedly agree.

Let me know if I answered this to your satisfaction. If not, I'll try to be more concise in my next response...I'm just a wee bit tired as I'm getting the house ready for the forthcoming holiday.

From everything I've seen so far, Obama is going to have a lot of the ultra-left going bonkers. Soros spent a load, like millions, getting Obama elected and he's expecting a payback. When he doesn't get it, the left will be marching on Washington again.

Is this an indirect endorsement of Obama I hear? ;)

A lot of the more extreme liberals supported Obama because a) he's a black guy and b) because he was the only major Democratic candidate to oppose the Iraq war since the beginning. But he's not radical at all, just very level-headed. It'd be nice to have a president like this for a change.

Yes. it's almost like Zen, having a presiden that can actually complete a sentence, putting the nouns and verbs in the right place, wow, an intelligent president. I guess you'd have to be from the south to not get that.

Nope, not an endorsement yet, however, I DO hold positive thoughts and wishes for his presidency. I don't like to see lefties like Daschle getting appointments in his cabinet though. Also, he's talking about make-work programs ala FDR ... and I don't like that either. If he really wants to get the economy booming again at a rapid pace, all he really has to do (and congress too), is to eliminate the capital gains tax, reduce corporate taxes on profits from 35% to 11% ... then sit back and watch the money flow back into the country and marvel at the job creation that would take place.

Oh yeah ViRedd, you're such a hoot, let's have more Bush economics, give more tax breaks to the rich and powerful, Ho ho ho. Sometimes I wonder what's in that Bunk you're smoking, probably some Labrador, like the cheech and Chong thing, more commonly known as dog shit.

I figure he has to bring people in from all sides. I recently heard some liberal pundit complaining that his appointments are all "center-right", and he was wondering why he ever supported Obama, so I guess he's got critics on all sides.

Bush cut corporate and capital gains taxes, but it didn't work all that well. Some senate Republican halfheartedly said the other day that Obama's job creation program wouldn't work and that he should cut capital gains taxes and corporate taxes. Obama said that it's clear the American people want a new approach, and that he didn't think continuing Bush's policies was a good idea.

Exactly, it didn't work at all. The rich just horded the money and the trickle down thing, never happened, never happened under Reagan, never happened under Bush I. Trickle down is the stupidest economical Idea ever. It is a benefit the rich only thing, always was and always will be. We have to build the middle class from the bottom Up, that's what Obama said he'd do, we'll see. Unionism needs to come back strong and enact some guarantees for the workers, raise up the standard of living, just like it has in the past. Yeah, I know there are corrupt union officials, but there are corrupt CEOs, bosses, managers, etc. It was always the companies that started the violence in strikes, bringing in strike breakers and having the police on their side. I realize it is stressful for managers to actually have to treat those under them with a modicum of respect and not be able to just walk up to someone they personally dislike and yell "You're fired", wow, tough titty. If they have a case against a worker that is a miscreant, bring it to arbitration and let the arbitrator decide if this individual deserves termination. Even felons get three strikes.
