it's been a long while since i fished barbel but i believe it's fairly similar. bait is rather different though, now is where my memory get's real hazy on the subjetc, but my mind is telling me cheeeeese :lol: it was also on very small streams so very very short river rods and a machette to hack your way towards promising pools.

the river test is a great chalk stream to fish, but again, it's all rather dire in the UK, no hot sun to bask in and all that lot, mostly grey and bahhh :lol:

I love fishing.. Last year I caught my first 200lb+ yellowfin Caught it out at guadalupe island... About 150 miles south of the so cal border... Pic to come...Peace

hey fdd, can you recomend a good tube float? i have been thinking of getting one of these for a few years now.. they look like the best way to get around small lakes and catching some nice bass with.. i love to fish as well. didn't do much last year and am really looking forward to this year..
my best was when we went out on the capemay rips for stripers.. i was inside puking the whole time, and they finally got me out to fish a lil.. when i got up the mate put a fresh eel on my line for me, and my next cast i caught about a 30lb striper and ended up winning the pool... to say everyone was not too happy with me would be an understatement.. i think i do best just on small ponds and lakes.. great thread..

it's not so much which float to get as it is which fins. you'll get tired fast without the proper fins. took me years to man up and throw down the cash for these. they were worth every penny. http://www.forcefin.com/float-catalog.html


i think i have a trout traps float right now. i've had 3 or 4 over the years. once you get into the quality ones they tend to all be the same. other than which one has which pockets, and things like that.for the most part they are simply an inner tube with a seat in it.

I use those fins and you are right they are the most comfortable and work well also... My buddie has a small trolling motor on his tube along with a fish finder... Peace

200+ yellowfin......you must have a bronze reel because you're packing bronze cojones.

I caught that fish on 80lb line with a 100lb spectra backing, spooled around a progear 50 reel all on a calstar rod... it took me 1 hour to land it...PEACE

I cant wait to fish either, I live in Illinois though. So I resort to small lakes.

Next topic is eatin mushrooms and going fishing.. Has anyone other than me partaken in this?? Me and my buddies use to do it quite a bit, ended up catching some of the biggest largemouth bass ever at that lake one day all fucked up while fishing with blue gill.. Its kind of hard to fish when your frying balls, but we were screamin so loud when we managed to land a 9 pound largemouth.. Dam i wish i still had that picture.

nice, thanks for the links fdd.. that's why i have had such a problem myself spending that kinda money on a float tube as they are pretty much like you describe them, just a rubber tube with a seat in them.. i will definitely check out the links .. thanks again..

it is one of the most peaceful experiences i have ever had. you become one with the water. no noisy motors. when you catch fish they try to hide under your ass. things bump into you. i love it.

i grew up on a commercial salmon boat on the northern california coastline. i still live here and try to make it out to sea now and again. scares me now though. i've seen some amazing things out there.

I hear the Humboldt squid are back bigtime right now. We got into them on the way to Cordell Banks a couple El Ninos ago. Filled the boat floor in about an hour. I got tired of pulling them in, put the pole down and picked up a gaff to help the deckhand. He couldn't gaff them fast enough. My suede workboots and bluejeans turned black. I only took four home, 100 lbs of squid lasts a long time.
