Would you consider buying a VERO after reading through some of the posts?

thanks! I've been waiting for someone to layout a super simple method. I've just been using thermal plaster so far but have been wanting to do a simple versions of drill/tap in the future.

where can I find the screws? searched a few places and it didn't seem to be obvious.

You may not be able to find small enough screws for Vero applications at big-name hardware stores, such as Lowes, Menards, and Home Depot. Instead, try to find a local hardware store, preferably the mom and pop type, as they are most likely to carry the sizes we DIYers depend on using (M3, #4-40, etc.).

If you have to order screws online, your doing and paying too much.

Yes, as GreenGenes pointed out DO NOT tap or drill the holes whilst the COB (Vero, CXA, etc.) lay in the path of punishment, unless of course you like burnt, scrambled eggs.

I can only find baggies of 3 screws at home depot. They just don't like metric fasteners there, but they love selling metric tools.

I scored big the other day at home depot buying a set of universal spline box ratcheting combination wrenches for 11 bucks just because it was the old packaging and they had nowhere to put it.

7 splined metric ratcheting wrenches (10,12,13,14,15,17,18 ), for 11 bucks!!

It costs 11 bucks to get one 17mm 12pt ratcheting wrench sold individually.

Find a hobby store. Specifically one that does RC cars. They will have all of the M3 and M2.5 screws in different lengths that you'll never need and for a fraction of HD and lowes. I needed some M2.5s to mount my Vero to this single heat sink to be my test light and picked up a pack of 6 there for a buck. Same price for the M3s as well.

Of course, there's always the bulk hundo packs on amazon for a few bucks too. :)

Funny you should say....the only place I could find self tapping M3 6mm screws: from a hobby shop!

I am going to get self tapping 4-40 x 3/8" screws.

But is it OK to use 410SS into alum because not in salt water so no issues? I dont expect issues with high humidity...again.
Or should I stick with zinc plated hardened steal.

I assume so...ordered from grainger so no shipping but might not get here until Mon now...

i really want to start a diy led but would not no were to start or even put the thing together wouldent mind giving me a hand please can work out somway to say thanks aswell

What he^ said. I'm just a newb in the DIY game with this being my first major build. I'd be nowhere if not for the man known as @SupraSPL and his vast wealth of LED knowledge.

I really have been on the lookout everywhere for some casings to repurpose for light fixtures....good find!
