There's another site that just has the politics and other heated areas under a sub section which requires opting in. It's a free for all with almost no rules, but unless you specifically choose to partake you never see it at all in any searches or anything.

The only rules enforced in that section is no buying/selling/spam.

I'd love that!

We could all go there and take the gloves off and rake eachother over the coals all day long without making the sensitive people cry and without listing any posts in there when people are trying to search or browse for real pot growing info.

For example the "new posts" button I use often here would never show posts from there, only posts from the more useful areas.

lol, that just kinda avoids the problem though, doesn't it? I mean, people should be able to have a civil debate. There's nothing wrong with a heated debate, but name calling as a response is just childish.
 
Ah but it can be so rewarding to just vent sometimes and that seems to be what a lot of people want, a place to just vent. This is not a high brow debate site, if someone wanted to debate politics properly they should take it somewhere else anyway.

If venting means personally attacking people, they should take it somewhere else anyway. RIU is a community, people can vent, you just can't use your fellow members as punching bags.
 
people are so desensitized by the internet, its not hard to imagine the people who make personal attacks their brand of fun.

Hey if everyone here enjoys heavy handed monitoring and being coddled like children fine, me personally I like freedom even if that means someone can call me an idiot or worse.

It was just a thought... I just really don't like censorship at all.
 
oh i feel you man, i was getting more at the kind of person who makes it so we need to be "heavy handed monitoring and being coddled like children". i mean its the insensitive people who get baked and post their minds, or just vent their frustrations on some poor noob, that threads get closed, infractions dealt and fdd and other mods work so hard. the faster we weed them out, the better RIU would be

Agreed but I'd just go so far as to say that anyone that is a detriment to the site should be permanently banned for that reason alone, not even needing to be caught breaking a certain rule but just because it's the right thing to do for the community as a whole. Maybe a couple warnings and then see ya, don't come back. Then if you see them back, kick again. It would be nice if there was a way to permanently ban people not just accounts. IP ban isn't going to cut it nearly often enough but would be a start.

you all want to argue. you can't respect this site by being aware of the problems that are being caused here, admitting to them, then helping to fix them. you all want to deny it's you. my PM box is filled with threats and insults. you have all SPOKEN. this section will be closed as soon as rolli gets home from vacation. you all don't want it to be a nice place, it's gone. simple as that.
