I used 5 Air-Pots amongst my last grow and I saw no difference when compared to regular 5 ltr pots. Size, yield, health of foliage, health of roots was all the same. They are also messy to water. I won't be using them again.
Probably overwatered..

Im going to be doing a side by side comparison on how these pots work with clones. Stay tuned : ). Tests start in a bout a week between standard pots , and air pots.

Yeah that many would cost you a bit, but DIY would be a lot of time and probably a bit of money to. Be sure to tally up all the true costs of you doing it yourself though, would be interesting to see the difference. When I bought 4 each of 3 different sizes the shipping was only like 8 bucks and the whole deal was like $60.21 or something. While DIY will hopefully save money, you won't be able to make a product that works as well, because that design with the cones helps guide roots that don't head straight for the air hole. So while you could puncture your bucket (or whatever you use) with a ton of holes, it still won't have the same dealy. I think if you are running an operation that takes twenty-four 3 gallon pots and a dozen half gallon pots, that it would probably just be better to go and buy them since they should perform better than a DIY version, and with that many plants of that size you should be able to make enough to buy them. I went to growers-inc and did up that order for you, they don't have 1/2 gallon though, they have .3 and .8 (as far as under 1 gallon goes) and so I went with the .8 for your order. They come from Salem, OR and shipping that much between them and Kent, WA would be $37. The whole order would be $299.13 while that may seem like a lot, it works out to about $8 a pot (which I think is worth it especially if you are growing that much).

good stuff man, thanks for doing that and i must say that you changed my mind.

not really on the 'egg carton' design, i believe truely that the pots with simple holes will have the same effect as the egg carton style, its all about the dirt having an air hole not air pocket. it makes sense for the companies to say that the pockets are important so people dont diy and they buy the expensive product. i can say this, one time i didnt use any perlite so i decided to drill 1/2 inch holes all around my pots for drainage and they did 'air prune' but only around the center where i drilled the holes.

however everything i have in my grow room is brand new, pretty top of the line and looks incredible. im not gonna ruin it with chopped up pots, ill shell out the 300 and be done with it.

regarding the money issue, im running a perpetual and harvesting 12 plants like every 5 or so weeks. i have 3 patients now and they all get a free oz a month along with myself smoking two. i really only get a little bit of cash from the op and we all know how expensive soil and nutes are not to mention electrcity.

oh my christ , i just wrote forever and accidently deleted it. i hate life ...

Rzza , im really looking forward to seeing your diy project with the air pots. From what i have learned, the cones are what guide the misguided roots into the holes. When a root hits a flat surface it is merely deflected. i think some people think the roots " search " for the air pockets or air holes in the pots. They dont. they are simply led there by the design of the pot. Ill be checking regularly for updates on that project. Sounds damn goooood.

Well I still think they would work at least a little better than a DIY cause like they said, if a root doesn't head straight for the holes, when it hits the walls it will be guided into them

why wouldnt it go straight for a hole? there is oxygen there, they will go there.

turn your pots upside down rightnow and look at the holes.
