Air INTAKE Quality. 4x4 grow tent in basement room.

Hello - first noob post.

So I have a 4x4(6ft tall) grow tent that I will be using for my grow, that is located in a room in my basement. Privacy is not a concern. I do have access to windows for the exhaust, so I can setup an exhaust fan up top inside the tent as normal, and exhaust the hot air outside via ducting - or just to the main unfinished area in the basement.

My concern: the basement air quality is pretty musty/generally poor. It's right next to a laundry room in an unfinished area with a furnace, and the previous owners of the house had their cat's litterbox there, so it just smells weird and not very suitable for growing plants it seems. I am concerned the only air coming through the bottom of the grow tent will not be "fresh", and contribute to mold and just general stunted growth. Is this a valid concern, or am I just a noob? And if this is valid, what can I do about it? Is there some way I can "scrub" the air coming in via the intake?

Thanks in advance,

You could set up an intake fan with a carbon filter attatched outside of the tent, blowing air inside of the tent, then you'd also need a second vent van to blow air from the tent to the outside-That's the best method for purifying your air-you'd close off all the other vents and just rely on the filtered air. A less good option is to get some cut to fit carbon furnace filter and filter all of the vents and ducts you use as passive intakes. This will filter out some of the dust and funk, but it will also create some pressure inside of the tent as the vent fan blows air out of the tent. There are also "dust mushrooms" for this purpose.

small intake fan + filter at the bottom, larger exhaust fan up top. that makes sense. how often do you have to replace the carbon filters?

I think that's a great idea re: the carbon furnace filters cut to fit on the passive intakes. Might try that first and upgrade to dual fans if that doesn't work.

Would getting an air purifier to place in the room itself do any good?
