Air cooled hood without air cooling

What happens if you run an air cooled hood without air cooling it? I was thinking of buying a Growlite OG vertical reflector hood, removing the glass and just running it as is. Would the heat damage the reflector in any way?

with the glass removed its just a non air cooled hood and it wont hurt anything. with the glass in place and no cooling it might get a little hot inside the hood but idk what would happen.

Those OG hoods are seriously badass. You can run it without cooling but anything over 400w will get pretty hot, nothing a little A/C can't handle though.

I have (3) OG hoods with 600w in them, dunno about removing aircooling but as is with cooling these bad boys dropped my room by 8 degrees. I love them.. period.

if ur not going to air cool why spend the cash on an air cooled hood. go with the free hanging parabolic for 40 bucks.
Good question :) I guess I felt that the vertical reflective capability of the OG would be superior to a horizontal parabolic. Is that true? But in the end you're right, it is a bit of a waste. I am torn between trying an OG reflector with a Solis Tek ballakt and Eye Hortilux HPS, and just getting another Gavita 600W all in one. I really like the Gavita light a lot, the only downside is that they only come in 240V which requires rewiring a room.

Yes the OG is much better than even a vertical parabolic I have both. I mainly run LED's But also run HPS my best results were with the OG reflector A one generation back Lumatek 1Kw balast and and a Lumatek bulb. Run at 1.2K for first two weeks. Then dimmed to 1K for two weeks Then dimmed to .75K for 2 weeks and finished the last few weeks with it Dimmed down to 600 Watts.

This seemed to simulate the summer/Fall season real well and packed on a lot of frost and a whole lot more yeild than any other light/hood/ or led combo's I have ever tried in my 30 + years at this. The lumatek is by far the longest lasting best balast I have ever run. Combining it with the OG vertical fixture is a match made in heaven. I use an 8" duct booster fan pushing the air thrrough and conical charcol filter on the inlet side of the fan.

I imagine you could run this without air cooling as it does run much cooler.

I dont have any affiliation with Lumatek but have used enough other garbage on the market ( and there is alot of it ) to say you would be very happy with that balast. they run 110v-240v and are dimmable. I see they now have a newer one out that is more shaped like a C.A.P. Next gen than the last generation that I have. I cannot speek to its quality. As for the EYE Horts they are as good or better than any I have tried. for me its a $$$ toss up. Which ever I can get Horts or Lumes bulk on Ebay the cheapest. I just got 3 of the Lumateks new for $125 They seem as good as the Horts with one upgrade. They have stiffer support For the fillament (and so less wiggle in it when it powers on with a Digi Balast) within the bulb.

Also one more thing about balasts I always buy the 1ks because they will power 1-3 400 watt bulbs or 2 600 watt bulbs or a single 1k or just 1 400 or 600 or 1000w. Last but not least please forgive my spelling and grammer. I have been told I am an idiotsavant when it comes to growing and breeding but not much good for anything else.

I ran a cooltube reflector without air cooling it for about 3 months last winter with no problems at all.
