Air circulation and heat

Hi All

I have a grow tent with an extractor and filter but I have nothing pumping air in. Is this required ?
What should I do?

Also, I'm up north and it is still a bit chilly at night.
What temp should the tent be kept at and do you know of a good small heater with a thermostat?

yes u will need an intake fan for fresh air, ideally at the bottom of the tent and the exhaust at the top. temps should stay between 75-80 for ideal conditions. at night time the temp shouldnt drop much more than 10-12 degrees between day and night cycle...in other words, if ur temp is 80 during the day, staying around 70 at night is perfect

I think sometimes you need to try the wait and see approach. Sometimes the tent seems to be warmer than you might expect it to be.

I mean, you can try out a small heater, but then you need to check to make sure that you're not pumping in too much heat since it will dry out the plants.

Plus, if you're using a tent, it seems that you're going to collect too much heat too. And that's no good.

I think it's too tricky to play with temperature too much, since things can go wrong very quickly.

There isn't any way to move the room to somewhere more insulated?

im in a similar situation and i dont think a heater is necessary, the tent it reflective and holds heat well, if ur biggest prob is keeping temps up, ur lucky lol

Unfotunatly there is no way I can move the grow tent.

Can anyone recommend an intake fan?

im having problems with that myself , it gets chilly at night but when i put a heater on the the air seems to dry up. im installing a inlet fan i think the more freshair the better they say , then it minght not get as dry if i have to run the heater .

This is called a duct booster fan, about thirty five bucks at htgsupply.com if your in the states. I had the white flange, it doesn't come with the fan. I have my tent in my grow room with my hid lights and on the same light schedule and the room is air conditioned and I also have been keeping the front open so heat isn't an issue for me. The fan moves over two hundred feet of air so it sucks the tent in. I keep my lower four inch flap open along with the long flap in the back, I'm also using a t-5 in the tent not hid.


Edit. Do you have a thermometer in the tent? Do you know your day/night temps in there?

I agree with heads up, get a cheap intake fan 135 cfm is fine. You want a negative current, mine is 435 going out and 135 coming in jorge says 1/4 ratio is what ur going for.
I was worried about cold too when i started my grow as I am leaving the window open and the intake comes from the house. It never goes below 70 even when nights get to 36 outside. Thats just my experience watch your temperature gauges and get one that has min max temp so u know how cold it gets. If it gets too cold at night with the lights off then turn ur fans off 2 hours before night time and turn only the intake and your oscillators on when lights are off. This should make it nice in warm before bedtime. And retain heat.

I also use a tent, you shouldnt need an intake fan as a tent should work with negitave preasure and passive intake this way all the air gets sucked through the carbon filter.

As for a heater in your tent. I wouldnt do it as a tent is to small, stick a heater in the room with your tent and control night time temps with this.
