So i germinated my seeds using the paper towel method but once they had roots of about a quarter inch long, i placed them in the MG potting mix. of the 7 that i planted, only one had a hard time and had to be thrown out
(it didnt die but it wasnt doing very well, also mind you, it sprouted two stems instead of one so there might have been more going on there than just a bad seed.....).

below is a pic, see for yourself. the one that was struggling is one the right side.

i use a 1 gallon grow bag filled half way to the top with sta-green soil(the cheap soil from lowes). then i put down 1/2 inch of soil starting mix i got from the lil old lady at the local nursery. after that i put seeds on top and then cover them with 3/4 inch of the seed starting mix. i mist or drip the water so i dont disturb the seeds. then i stick a cfl inside the bag and get great results

i also changed the way i start my germinated seeds

i use Hyponex (made my Scotts, the same company that owns MG), tropical soil mix and MG 3 month release.. the Hyponex doesn't have any NPK and it cost 2 dollars, cheap stuff...so it helps bring down the NPK in the MG... i would mix all 3 for the seedlings or just mix the Hyponex with the MG... it handles the seedlings waaaaay better than i thought.... when its time for transplanting, thats when i add the MG perlite... since it has an NPK and the MG 3 month release also... all i have to do is water and don't worry about nutes for a couple more weeks.... even for my final transplant i still don't worry about nutes because i'm transplanting into fresh soil with an NPK in it already...i like it this way
