Afghan cfl grow - Second Grow

So This is my second time around and this time I feel ready to actually grow some good plants. My last grow did not finish my plants got destroyed about a month and a half after sprouting . But now I'm back and stronger than ever.

I'm growing Afghan seeds that I got from a online vendor.
So far 4 out of my 5 seeds that I started germinating about 28 hours ago are showing roots so there is still one little seed that might not germinate, but I do see a crack in the side of the seed now so hopefully by morning I will see something poking out of it.

For now I will be growing with two 23 watt cfl's and one 16 watt cfl.
I do plan on buying more lights but I won't really get around to that until I get my next pay check.

I am going to try and keep this thread as up to date as possible with lots of pictures so stay tuned in ;).

Come morning time I will check up on my little babies and if they are big enough to plant then I will do so. So either way I will be posting a few pictures tomorrow morning.

So now I impatiently wait :(

Ur off to a decent start. Those cfl's should be sufficient until u get a few sets of leaves. At least another 2-3 weeks. After that your going to want to buy a metal halide kit or an hps. You are definatly going to have to buy bigger lights. I'd go no less than 600 watts ( actually I'd go 1000w to be safe) How are u growing? Soil? Hydro? Since your only growing a few u might want to research scog and learn how to top and supercrop your plants for exponential increases in yield. Good luck with your grow. I can't wait to see your updates and wish u luck.

Sorry I forgot to put that I was using soil. And yeah I will defiantly be buying more lights but I figured the lights I had will be good enough to last me till Thursday when I can get some more. And I am defiantly going to be topping my plants.

Make sure u buy some hydroton, and mix a lot of it in with your soil. This will increase drainage and allow for massive root growth. The drainage will be so good in fact that the soil could dry up in one day ( using your finger by putting it 1" into the soil to feel for wettness), making u water it more frequently and allowing you to better controll your nutrients and flush cycles. I don't know offhand the exact soil to hydration ratio, but it's pretty close to 50/50z hydration is cheap! But ur definatly going to have to use nutes. You want to use mutes anyway. This way if the drainage is good enough and you have to water it frequently enough, it will be almost like a hydro style. Kinda like how people get awesome results from using coconut fibers instead of soil. You may want to look into that.

If you don't have the cash for an hps setup, save your cash and use those cfl's till u can afford one. You won't be sorry, and you will get plenty of cash by producing with them.

So I am in the process of rebuilding my box so sadly I only have two lights installed right now as that is all I had time for today :( hopefully I will have some time tomorrow to get the rest in. But I got a 100% germination rate so I am pretty happy right now as this is the first time I have ever germinated before

Well anyways here are some pics.

What seed bank did you get the afghani from? That's some hardcore narcotic buds man, my friend used to grow that stuff & he was cloning it hydro style, he would end up with these huge 3/4 oz donkey dicks.

Don't let Buster get you too freaked out with the amount of light you need. A 250 or 400 watt HPS would be more than enough. If you stick with just CFL's, which you reasonably can, I would use at least 300-400 watts. Your plants need at least 50 watts/square foot & can absorb up to 200 watts per square foot. So COULD you use 600 or even 1000 watts...? Sure. Do you NEED it? No. 10 or 12 of the 25 watt cfl's should suffice once you are 3 weeks in. Just keep in mind you need to keep them as close to your plants as possible & you need the 6500k daylight spectrum for vegging, & the 2700k soft light for flowering. Good luck bro, love me some afghani!

Am i allowed to post a direct link the the site i got the seeds from? if so I will gladly post it.
Ya I mean I don't care, I don't think it will be a big deal to the moderators. You don't need to post the link up tho, you can just tell me the name of the seed bank & I can google it from there since I know what strain I'm looking for. I was just curious cuz there are SO many afghani strains out there right now & most are a little bit different from each other in small subtle ways.

So 2 plants that have shed their seeds and are showing their first leaves and the other two right now growing up through the dirt but still have their seeds on them. Pretty good for only being 2 days old I think.

Don't go by watts per square foot go by lumens per square foot. I've seen people get good results from using cfl's. But the gold standard for any greenhouse, residential, or commercial is hps for a reason. You won't find a thread anywhere that says anything else. 2-400 watt hps would be sufficient for a 3x3 grow area. The sun puts out 7500-10000 "lpsf" to get your lumen per square foot take the lumens (150000 for a 1000w sodium) And divide that by your grow area square footage. A 5x5 area = 25sf now divide 150000x25=6000lpsf. But even at 6000 lpsf, the distance from the light exponentially reduces the lpsf. So, do u need 6-10000lpsf? No, but will you get bigger buds from 6000lpsq than 3000lpsf? YES! Will u get even bigger& better buds from 10,000lpsf? YES INDEED! remember your plants will only give as much love back as they get. U need 3,000lpsf MINIMUM to grow good bud. So do your research and think about how much space your 5 plants are going to take up by the end of their cycle, and buy the lights that you think will produce the results you want.

I have bought feminized seeds from the attitude seed bank, and nirvana, and have ALWAYS got exactly what I ordered. I'm defiantly going thru them again after I grow the super lemon haze, pineapple express, super afgan kush, sour cream, sharks breath, and white widdow.
