Aeroponic / DWC hybrid idea

Dude...You need a ultrasonic mister and I orderd two of them yesterday . I'll design an aero/Dwc soon and let you know the result . You can find mister here and design your own ! : Ultrasonic Water Fogger-The Mist Maker I think its the best idea because I will get as small as possible part combined with O2 and you can use two pc fan to circulate the mists inside the my box .Only1/3 of the plant roots will stay in water,So I will not worry about any problem + Best result .what do you think ?!

no doubt that ultrasonic is the way to go!
if you use fans to circulate the mist ... will it fuck it up? maybe turn the mist into rain and make small droplets bigger?
i would look into that one more, im no expert :)

....why not just add an excessive number of air stones? that seems like it would solve all your problems. I mean all hydro systems really only vary on water/air ration in the root zone. I would love to see someone use like a hot tub air pump and just have tons of air but in DWC. dunno, thoughts?

heh i was trying to keep the rocks in DWC and the hybrid DWC/aero threads seperate as seperate ideas that i was going to combine down the road.

No, I don't believe it to be detrimental. I initially mis-read my meter and hit them with 7500 ppm nutes, which burned the shit out of them, so they look like shit now. The plants are thriving, though.

The next generation of water cultivation methods was "aero-hydroponics," in which the root zone is divided into two sections. The root tips are immersed in a constantly flowing stream of nutrient solution while the upper roots hang in an air gap and are sprayed or misted with nutrient solution to provide optimum oxygen levels.

Here is my DWC/aero hybrid. It now has one big female feed by the three sprinklers on the top and is really easy and cheap to make. let me know and ill show u how.

i did that with the sprays on the lid, but i did a half assed job and it leaked everywhere.
i also had a seperate res that was huge so that you dont have to change the water as often.
i still think it was the master system, just needed a few tweaks.

where did you get the tiny grommets in the lid, thats the one part i couldnt find. if i had them i would be set.

i was deleting some old threads that i subscribed to in the past, and i came across this one. i am just wondering what you guy came up with in the end. the conversation just seemed to stop.

i have moved the main reservoir out of the grow room. i am trying to stay off the purchase of a chiller. the res is behind the wall of the grow room. this room has a window, in which i use a fan to push in cold winter air into the grow room and also chill the res at the same time. in the summer i will add a AC unit or the chiller.


the reservoir has 2 60-100 gallon air pumps attached to 4 air stones. available at @#$%mart or any pet store. it also has a pump that feeds the nutes to the grow room. i chose a 1596 gph pump. overkill, i like overkill also.

in the grow room there is a 4' 6" long piece of 6" pvc pipe. i drilled holes for the net pots with a holesaw. and 2 small holes for air lines.

i used 2 6" pvc caps. on one cap i drilled hole for the laser drilled spray line, which connects to the feed line from the main reservoir via a regular garden hose connection. this spray line is the replacement line for the aeroflow commercial unit sold in the shops or online. i picked mine up for $10.

on this same cap i drilled a hole for the drain about 3" up on the cap. this creates a 3" reservoir in the tubes. it drains back to the main reservoir through a hose.

in the tube there are 2 air stone attached to 2 60-100 gallon air pumps.

the only problem i have now is the heat issiues. winter is great. my first summer with this set up is coming. i do have a hillbilly chiller as a options. i think with a AC unit for the res room i will be fine. i just cant bring myself to spend the $350 on a chiller, and i have not put enough energy into trying to build one myself.

Been a long time since this threads been active but there is so much information here that I'd rather not make a new thread. According to wikipedia "aeroponically grown plants requires ¼ the nutrient input compared to hydroponics". So this means that you really DO need a seperate resevoir in a hybrid system because the roots in the DWC won't be getting optimum strength nutes?

Any consensus on this? Or is it better just to pick DWC or Aero?
